Pete, I appreciate your conservation efforts. Nice to see a guy have love for the forest and respect for other's land. I'm far from a tree huger but I did cringe a bit when you first marked that shaggy in the beginning. It's just ascetically my favorite. i remember the Halloween cartoons in childhood days. There was always a shagbark in them along with a crescent moon and a good ole witch with a broom. They do make beautiful mill wood though. Nice vid! Stay safe friend.

I agree with your thinking , not worth going into some spots for one tree, I leave stuff that a forester has marked for the same reason and explain to the landowner it’s not worth disturbing 30 saplings for one tree.

The land owner is given an offer, pay before we cut. The mill does not tell him the board footage. What hurts is to scale a 60 acre lot and the land owner to sell it to another mill. The other mill won't even walk the lot! That hurts.

done it for 21 years scale timer right in the area I'm in not done unless they're taking bids or if a big companies got it you can buy it on the stump we go scale it but private people usually 50/50 and I'm not talking about nothing but grade and tie but you got steep mountains Big Hollow tracks range of 50 acres 2000 Acres it can take awhile to scale 2000 ac that's when a lot of guesswork comes in usually four people scale landowner around here more interested how much is going to bring an acre that's hard to figure shoot low that brings more makes it look good LOL but most of us sold on 50/50

I hate to see land that people have just let go. All that rotten stuff on the ground could have been somebody's firewood. Those dead standing trees the same before they got that way. The crowded places should be thinned and the vines all killed out. It does a forest no good to leave it unattended. Unless you want to leave it for 500 years to recover on it's own. People are smarter than trees (well a few are) and can help a forest recover. And make a valuable asset out of it in a short time if they would just use that thing between their ears (if they have one). OK, I off my stump! Who's next?
