That’s probably Jackfruit. It has same texture as meat. Low budget buffets like these usually allow only vegetables for you to serve yourself. They’ll provide a limited portion of meat upon request.

Thank you so much for promoting BEAUTIFUL Sri Lanka. The waterfall you just saw is not that big. You should see Bambarakanda Falls (tallest), Diyaluma (second tallest) and Dunhinda (massive). All are around Badulla District, not too far from Nuwaraeliya, could be an hour and half relax ride (60 km). If you have no other plans and want to come back to colombo, may take that return trip via Haggala gardens, Bandarawela, Diyatalawa, Haputhale and Badulla road, so beautiful places. In Haputale you can visit Legendary Adisham Bangalow, what a beutiful and scenic place, lush green and all blue mountains all over, more scenic than Hatton road. Then come back to Colombo via Ratnapura, the city of Gems. Take care and enjoy 😊 🙌

Probably ask what they are serving next time. Otherwise it might lead to food allergies. Idea of food allergies not quite common in this region. Saw a post about bunch of foreigners were served Sago drink and it contained peanuts. I think many Sri Lankans don’t know there are people allergic to things like peanuts and it’s deadly

I get very romantic imagining how it would have been to come here from the other side of the world during those days, but of course I'm very awake to the knowledge that the reality wasn't always something that ought to be glorified and my fellow countrymen of days gone by can take their fair share of criticism for many of the bad things they did. Happy to be able to enjoy it to my fullest now though and do my best to sew seeds of goodness from my side of the world, no matter how small or fruitful they'll be.
