Why NuX hasn't published firmware update instructions is a bit puzzling. Here's how to do it. 1. With the power disconnected from the NBP-5, connect it via USB to your computer. 2. Depress and hold down the Drive and On/Off foot switches while plugging in power to the NBP-5. 3. The green Drive and red On/Off LEDs should now be flashing. If not, disconnect power and try again. 4. Open the firmware updater software. It should recognize that the pedal is connected. 5. Select the new firmware file and perform the update. As the firmware is loading, the red On/Off LED will flash. 6. When the update is complete, the green Drive LED will start flashing. You may now disconnect power from the NBP-5 to complete the update process.

Whoever still has connectivity issues- i almost got depressed when nothing worked and the guys at Nux sent me a different firmware than the one online and that solved it all!

Another great review Ivon. I watched this a while ago. Then watched it again now for a refresher after buying this pedal. I am really digging this Nux preamp through my Ampeg SVT VR and Ashdown ABM Evo 2 500wt through a 610HLF cabinet. Was looking for a pre-amp with a light-duty drive. This definitely has a nice simple drive. I love that you can go in and change the IR settings on your computer and select the head and cab sims that work for you. My preference is the MLD amp combined with the SV810 cabinet. Another great feature is the ability to turn the cab/amp sim on or off to your amp output and the XLR output. I like engaged for my in-ears and to house XLR output and OFF to my stage amp. There have been some negative comments about the software but they have since updated the firmware to V4 and I had no problem.

Great review and helps me solve the PC connectivity issue I was experiencing with the pedal. I predominantly use it as a headphone amp with some audio source providing something for me to play along with. Hey Aaron! I haven’t had that much time to mess around with the SLO, but i would say that the MLD preamp has more potential to sound “hi-fi”, think modern gospel. The SLO sounds more like an old-school tube amp, specially if you use the drive for some break up.

Meu Deus ele faz tudo! acabei de ler o manual dele Ivan, e no PC ele tem inúmeras opções. Pretendo comprar um preamp e o tom que me agrada é o ToneHammer. Preciso de uma interface de gravação, e o Nux faz os 2, trabalha em 40 Hz (bass). Rapaz agora eu fiquei na dúvida. Se você conseguir acessá-lo via PC, daria de fazer uma comparação? Hi Julio, thanks for watching! I would recommend getting a dedicated separate recording interface if you need one. The Nux pedal is pretty handy because it offers both things, but a high quality interface has better A/D converters. It all depends on your budget, of course! I will do a comparison between interfaces! Thanks for the suggestion

Hey Ivan! Great demo of this pedal. It helped me decide to buy one. So far I love it but have a couple questions: I plugged the 9V power to it and it worked great. I then put it into my pedalboard with a Strymon Zuma power source and it’s not getting power. Any idea why? Second question - when I plug it into my computer and choose the amp & cab I want, does the pedal remember that setting? Thanks!

Awesome demo and review, Ivan. 😎🤘🏻🎸 I was looking at this preamp pedal recently and it sounded pretty good. I was wondering if the agl stood for Aguilar amps and this video clarified that it is. I’m also surprised to learn that this preamp also contains other amp models like ampeg, mark bass, and trace Elliot. Since I’m currently In the market for a preamp pedal for my main pedalboard, I might consider buying this preamp. That or the ehx battalion.

It gets close, but i think other pedals such as the VT give you more tonal options and a more usable overdrive

A good review with good examples of sound & how to use...i'm a bit late to the party but i wanted to give it some time as me & PC's don't get on...do you know if it can be used as bought or do you have to register it with NU.X with a PC first ?...if it can be used without a PC what are the amp & cab ir's when first bought ?...eg..Aguilar or MLD pre-amp & what cabinet ?....thanks Ivan... Question: did you use an audio interface to record these sound samples? The XLR in the vid suggests you did, so curious what sound quality difference would be using only the USB out.

I did use an interface to record. The A/D converters are definitely better using a separate dedicated interface, but the USB does the job in a convenient package

@@IvanBassist Thank you Ivan! I bought the unit and it took me for ever to set up. My PC is finally recognizing it but I'm still finding the signal too low which distorts when I try to compensate by turning up the volume. I don't own an interface or XLR cable...

Interesting! I found my signal was pretty hot and i had to turn the volume down 😅 Try Messing around with the usb audio sliders inside the application :)

I confess, this device is a nightmare to set up. I've had 2 different IT pros help me and it's still not up an running 100%. It took forever to get my PC to recognize it, and now, despite more hours of work, the device and software are not connecting. I don't understand why Nux provides such limited and confusing instructions.

Hola Carlos! Yo creo que no deberia haber diferencia de sonido dependiendo de el tipo de cable, siempre y cuando no uses uno que se vaya a romper muy facil o pueda tener malos contactos, pero no te puedo responder con 100% de seguridad.

Both are great! Build Quality-wise, the MXR might be better. If you just want a straight up solid pedal and don’t want to have to deal with USB connections or softwares, go for the MXR. If you don’t mind using a software to change some things, grab the MLD

The drive is indeed mild. The beauty of this drive is blending in just a touch of overdrive into the clean signal for that slightly pushed amp sound.

Can you explain if you have XLR out to input 1 on the interface and the dry out going to input Two on the interface these signals wet &dry can be mixed/blended in the DAW, so is the blend/mix control just for a blend out to your amp or for single channel use on the interface? Thankyou so much

The blend is just between the driven and clean signal inside the pedal. You can send both signals like you mentioned on your comment. One would have the EQ and drive and the other one would be completely dry

I used a headphone to listen but did not watch. Hmmmmm. There is no big difference in the sounds. Maybe because it’s always the same (boring) riff. Different riffs and style would help to recognise the sound variations. Most of the direct sound was very thin. Together with the cab sim it sounds better. Many pedals are cheaper and sound better. A good compressor is a better investment. Digital features and revamp are interesting. Finally: don’t buy it.

@@waterblessed765 Thomann Germany offers the Peadl for 142 euros. A preamp with DI and some distortion. In addition, 3 AMp models and 8 CAB SIMs. No compressor! Compressor is in my opinion the minimum standard for recording a bass signal. Electro Harmonix Battalion is cheaper and more flexible in sound . Except for reamping. For a little more money there is Zoom B3n with more AMp simulation and more CAB and multi-effects and good compressors. When I compare Zoom B3n with SansAmp is little difference to hear. Or two separate effects. Good versatile compressor tc electronic SpectraComp Bass Compressor. Distortion Fuzz Electro Harmonix Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi Or just a good compressor. Men favorite EBS MultiComp Blue Label and the tone control in the recording software. Or no tone control if the bass sounds good. My Ibanez ATK 850 sounds very balanced even without EQ. I tested the pedal. The sound is good. The EQ is not very effective. The signal can hardly be influenced. Since I find tc electornic and Gallien Krueger much more effective. When switching to the distorted sound, there is always a volume difference. There is no additional volume control for distorted channel. Thus unsuitable for live situation. I miss the gain control for the input. Depending on the instrument, I want to set the maximum level to keep background noise low. This is missing from the NUX. EHX often has even a -10 dB cut for loud active instruments. I would have expected more if such a well-known and experienced bassist at the pedal mitenwickelt (?) Since I'm mainly looking for something to polish my live sound and control it more effectively, I'll take your advice and go for a good compressor that way my low end doesn't clash with the bass drum and sound muddy. Also since you say the EQ is minimal I really can't see myself using this pedal.
