Digital technology will continue to get better, cheaper, smaller. It’s not a threat to real amps because real amps are...........real. It’s the modelers that cost 2k that should be worried. Soon there won’t be any reason to spend more than 500 bucks on any modeler/profiler.

don't agree. It's actually not the tone what differs small, budget effects and things like fractal, the most. The game changer are all the inputs and outputs and other let's say "stage features" and overall robustness. On the other hand I think actually the real amps are in trouble. There are many people that worship tube amps, that's true but there are more and more young guitarists who never even played tube amp and have no feelings towards it. For most casual players tube amp is just too expensive and too inconvenient in many different ways - many of them will buy small, budget unit with great sound and tons of effects to experiment with. On the other hand many professional guitarists have already switched to fractals and kempers - they are more convenient to tour with and Kemper even lets them to capture the tone of the amps they already own. To be really honest, looking at it objectively, tube amp is just a terrible idea by design - big, fragile, energy-consuming. They succeeded because there wasn't anything better for all those years but it starts to change quickly.

Yeah, it sounds way better than my crate! lol. The only thing I would not skimp on for a beginner player is a decent guitar. Cheap guitars with high action, bad intonation, difficult necks and hardware almost had me quit playing guitar when I was young because I thought all guitars played like that and that I sucked. Not giving up, my dad bought me a Gibson Explorer, then went to a Ibanez G520 Ghostrider. Later purchased Jackson Dinky, Fender Strat, Fender Tele, Fernandez, Charvel San Dimas etc. I went back to try my fake chinese fender and it was still difficult to play, albeit easier than when I was just beginning. A good guitar that a kid is proud of will also give them drive to continue to play.

@@LeonTodd I got the UK Gold PLX 019 one. I prefer its JMP model to all my plugins, including Helix. Le Pou is best plugin to my ear. I turn the IR off and run Two Notes WOS. I got it so I could use real dirt pedals running hot, which could cause my DI or mic pres to clip before they hit a plugin amp sim, i.e., I wanted to move the amp modelling outside of DAW. I do not use the PLX much though because I got a JMP50 clone a week later here in AK. I run it into a Captor 8. The tone of the amp is not so dissimilar to any models and IRs etc. The difference is massive in another way though. I can not explain well it in words. Notes from the amp are just so much bigger and more solid. I figure it might be that 420v on the plates doing that. I can not run it on 10 for long, because it is too much for the Captor. Hard to resist though, because it sounds like Angus live in the late 70s. At max a JMP50 outputs nearly 90 watts, so it overheats the Captor. I have to run it on seven and boost with a TI Boost. Sounds like Ritchie to me that way. I have to hit it with distortion to get the tone into the 80s. I do not like running the amp for noodling, because I am afraid of blowing up yet another amp. But I do not have much joy with plugin amps when using the DI of my Audient iD14 (I must be doing something wrong, because others can get great tones from plugins even with something cheap like an Audiobox for their interface). I am looking at an all in one that connects via USB for simplicity. I think AxeFX sounds good, but I can not bring myself to spend big money to noodle away on what is essentially a very specialized computer running audio processing software, which is much the same thing as plugins (I am not one to spend big on software).

@LeonTodd
@LeonTodd 4 жыл бұрын
@@aquilarossa5191 you can get stereo by running a TRS to dual TS cable on this. JMP50 sounds so tasty! It's a topic for a full video, but there's a fair difference between a DSP based hardware modeller like the Axe-Fx and running plugins in a DAW. Sub 2ms latency and rock solid stability live with the Axe are big factors for me.

I have bought it based on pretty positive reviews. To be short. It's a product for beginners, or occasional musicians. Sound wise it's beyond my expectations and far from higher level modelers and profilers, no comparison to Helix, Axe, Kemper (I own them). Nux is not able handle active and high-output pickups without input clipping. Headphone/line output's frequency response is bad, thus the device is not suitable for serious recording as a sound card replacement. However, it is not completely bad :), I have bought it as a companion on business trips and I will use it.

He's a very likable chap and a superb musician. My ears aren't as finely tuned as I would like so without seeing the title of this video I could be forgiven for thinking this is a much more expensive modeler. Good enough for me for sure anyway! It's annoying I can't get this unit in the UK. Not sure about NUX's strategy but they seem to have no inventory for us European folks. Is NUX holding back? Is it a clever strategy whilst the hype builds? I dunno. What I do know is that I'll probably buy a Mooer or Hotone if these aren't available soon.

Great tones in the video :) I'm still looking for a Line 6 Helix Stomp alternative, because of it's size and features. Not the biggest fan of the helix sound. Love the interface on the mg-300 and the "authentic" look and controls of the modelled amps. Something I'm kinda missing on my first gen Axe FX. How did you get the MG-300? One of the things that I like from this Unit is the UI, from the desktop application to the little LCD screen it has, the UI is perfect, it shows you the amp it's emulating, the speaker cab it's coming out of, the pedals have UI's based on what they're copying, it's just great, what pisses me off most of the time when it comes to Multi-FX units is that they have some of the blandest UIs possible, just a little circle to adjust stuff in, like i know it doesn't make the pedal bad, what it sounds is more important than just what it looks like, but having that kinda UI just pushes you to explore the pedal more and tweak it to your heart's content, rather than just turning knobs.

Who is this for? It's perfect for someone like me to use at home. A year or so ago I decided that I wanted a full Marshall half stack, Vox 2x12 and Fender 2x12 to play with just at home to cover most bases. I didn't want the expense or hassle of that many valve items, so I got myself a 1960A cab and an AVT valvestate head, a Fender champion 100 and a Vox AC30VR. I could only get so far with the solid state tones, with the exception of the modelling on the Fender, which can be pretty good. I played around with various character pedals into fronts and FX loops and finally settled on this NUX MG300. I don't even bother with IR or cam sim, just run straight into the FX loops, use the real amp cabs and have had Great Results so far. I have a nice portable Mesa 5.25 stack with 2 1x12s that I can use live, is obviously valve and can cover most bases out of the house.

When you look at the effect pedals in the Nux mg300, such as the modulation pedal, time based pedal, overdrive or distortion effect pedal, it seems almost the same as the pedal in Nux mg100, but the advantage of the Nux mg300 is that there is an additional USB connection for downloading sounds. for free, in my opinion, the multi-effects nux mg300 and mg100 sound very good and almost similar to the original effect pedal / stompbox, very practical to carry anywhere and complete, all effects are already available in it

You like literally read my mind doing this video. 🤘 I’ve noticed this product a couple of days ago and was rather curious what it can do for the price. Though having an ir loader (with a little short word length of 512 samples, but considering the price a no prob imho) I was pretty convinced it would be usable at least. Now when you were done with the gainy stuff, I was like “OK so it does dist sounds alright, but I bet the cleans-breakup crunch would be where it suffers” (quite a common thing with cheapo modellers). Boy was I wrong! These are really great sounding esp the fender patch of yours blew my mind. Yeah it lacks a variety of output options. But I assume the output being a 1/4” stereo socket (as it’s a headphone output) so some Y-cable options are still available like di-boxes or even an external ir-loader-di-box to foh and another channel straight to amp’s return with internal ir block turned off. Btw, did you go straight to an audio interface or did you use it as one for this vid? Oh, and the “cheap plasticky” casing would be worshipped by your back, compared to more sturdy solutions (it’s like half the weight of my gt-1 I use for rehearsals which is also plastic)

Faaark. $169 for that little beastie. Pretty good value. Too bad everyones out of stock ATM. LOL The Delay pedal looks like an Ibanez pedal. I still have their Chorus pedal somewhere. If the JCM was a bit darker that would just about sound like my TSL. I reckon I'd just set and forget it on top of a clean solid state amp or just chuck it in the bag when I go away.

That sounds pretty damn good and at that price point you just can't beat it. I also had the Zoom 707, it was my first multi-effects pedal and at that time (about 14 years old) I absolutely loved it. I ran it straight into a Peavey 2X12 combo (which was a fantastic amp in itself) and it sounded pretty good to me at the time. It obviously doesn't compete with things out nowadays but I had loads of fun with that thing. But I'm really wanting to check this thing out.

I bought a zoom g5n just for the sake of silent playing through the headphones. And only chose it for the drum tracks to make things more fun and was quickly surprised by how good the little thing actually sounds. It's no tube halfstack but it's definitely better sounding than it has any business being for the money.

Great review Leon. Thank you for your insight. I have an AxeFx 3 at home to play and record. For jamming with other musicians i god a handy BOSS Nextone Stage, and it works like a dream. I was looking for a nice tuner and also needed a chorus for the BOSS. Also i have a Victory The Sheriff 22 and needed a nice Reverb, (I appreciated the NUX Atlantic). For half the price of a Tuner+Reverb+Chorus, the MG300, i think is perfect for the job. Yes, and i can use all the IRs, including your great ones. If you made some presets, i would love to try. All the best Miguel

Thank you for sharing your IR's, Leon! I tested how your TV Mix 2 one would sound with Poulin's free SoloC (Soldano) amp, Reaper's EQ, ReaGate, and a free reverb plugin (I'm not a fan of Reaper's one). The sound was spot on! I played along with the song 'Empire' and the song 'Operation:Mindcrime' from Queensryche. I had to stop playing at times to see how much my guitar was being heard. It blended in THAT well! On a side note, I'm ordering one of these NUX MG-300's tomorrow with a bunch of supplies/parts for my guitar arsenal. Can't wait!

1. Going by the fret markers, is that a Hamer sandwiched in between the Les Paul and the Firebird on the wall? 2. The tone quality and graphics for the onscreen software display are killer, I’d been looking at both this and the Valeton GP 100 and if only this had the metal construction and Peavey 5150 and Engl Savage sims I’d get this. 3. Love that IR you made, is it a Marshall cab?, sounds sooooooo good 😊

Hey man very nice video! I'm in the market, like maybe today, to grab another one of these little type of units. I have an old Hotone mp10 and I want to send it to my cousin in Canada. I used mine for busking and it served well but I'm doing a lot more stereo looping at home and I wanted to up my tones. He's an old school jazzer he plays piano /guitar. I got him into looping and now it's time to get him into effects. My goatee has been hell I don't even know maybe purely White by now for a while (my chick digs that I'm not always looking in the mirror ha!) And I think he's completely gray by now, so we're old timers I guess. My next step I guess is learning how to record on a computer. I played professionally and have done countless studios... Back when 2" 16 track was hip (it still is) and I learned how to build amplifiers and pedals from the internet but I don't know anything about even the simplest parts of interfacing gear to computer and what not.

most important to me when looking at any low cost pedal of this kind is to find at least one or maybe 2 decent fx to use to justify it. A main lead tone is worthless since I already have that in my rig. I usually am looking for a good vibe and rotary effect since most multi effects lack that. Heck I may have to break down and buy a Dry Bell Vibe and a Neo Ventilator just to get that. That is almost $800. My next purchase will be an AXE FX 3 if I can keep from blowing the money on something else while I continue to save up for it. SY1000 is also on my list but I can finance that.

I've been thinking about one of these. I'm trying to find the least expensive, yet passable multi effects to record with or take in a guitar case to jams or sit ins, etc. I did a search and found this and had forgot about it, but had to watch again because your vids are the best sir. ♥️🤘 I used to have a zoom 707 back in the mid 90s I think it was. I used it at work to jam when on break via headphones. What's funny is that the non guitar players loved how it sounded. 😂 It was ok because it gave me a way to practice quickly and not use a heavy tube amp. 😂♥️🤘 Great stuff. Thanks brother. ♥️🤘

NUX marketing says the modeling tech “TSAC-HD WHITE-BOX Amp Modeling Algorithm” is equal to Axe FX, and I’m impressed with the percussive characteristics of the Marshall model, however, I still need to hear that Uberschall model really chug out a sludgy super-saturated modern metal tone before purchasing.

@@spannengThanks for the timestamp - I just reviewed it again. The first time I heard it, and again now, I still found it somewhat underwhelming - doesn’t seem saturated enough. Maybe there’s something missing in translation. I’m comparing it to the Synergy pre-amp Uber module, which sounds amazing. Not sure what’s going on with the NUX model, including when being demoed by a metal guy, where the highly sculpted and refined Uber sound shouldn’t need any boost assist, or much help at all. I’m still quite interested in this NUX unit however, and LT sure seemed to like it! Cheers~
