NUX Mighty Air (One Of The BEST Cheap Amps?)

Today we're checking out the Mighty Air by NUX. Some people seem to thing this is the one of the best practice amps, or cheap amps, out there, and I'm going to find out. I've previously tried a couple of other NUX products, and they have been quite good, so this might be interesting.

I really don’t think people fully appreciate the value of a KZbinr who will review gear and tell you if it’s terrible, ok or great. There have been things Elmo has reviewed that I’ve disagreed with and some of the features he doesn’t value, I do. But I will always respect his honesty. It’s rare in the KZbin gear world

I use it with the app and there is so much more you can do. Happy with mine. Not amazing, but for the price I feel it’s fair.

when I got mine, I also had the issue with the delay, the update I had to do fixed it. Also a bit fiddling with the app makes it sound a lot better, even though I would recomend the Nux Mighty Plug Pro, as an awesome practice solution on headphones or a bluetooth speaker, or speakers in general.

I have speakers in my car 40 years ago mounted on the parcel shelf that sounded better than that and smaller, no excuse for not getting a decent sound out of 4 0r 5 inch drivers today.

I don't think this is a great review. The app is critical to get a decent sound. Once you've used it once you can save the sounds and you don't need to use it again. There was also a massive firmware update that completely upgraded the sound so worth checking that.

I'm actually a big Cube fan, but the Nux Mighty 20 Mk II was really impressive, for 158 euros including Bluetooth adapter. The clean sounds are good. I'd be interested to hear what you think of it.

I have one and for my use case i think it's a brilliant product idea despite some of it's issues, if you want a cheap (under 200) small and completely wireless practice amp to put on your desk or move around the house or take on vacation there's nothing else on the market, sounds are decent, it's not a particularly easy amp to setup but if you put in the effort it sounds ok (Elmo i really like your reviews but this one sounds crap compared to what i get mine to sound like), and app work fine, only main issue i have is the wireless transmitter crackling a bit after you establish connection, that goes away in less than 1 minute. There are NO alternatives for a sub 200$ completely wireless amp on the market, but as Elmo put it, if you dont need the wiresess transmitter there are tons of better options

I wonder why you don't use the app that comes with it to adjust the amplifier. More options, adjustment possibilities including impulse response and much more. I was able to play with one of these and it sounded much better to me. However, everyone tests in their own way. One reason why I don't think much of YT tests, thanks for the video

Have you checked out the NUX Mighty 8BT MKII yet? It's also app driven and takes power adapter or 8xAA batteries and has a bigger 6.5” FRFR speaker. I don't have one. I'm just looking for an extra battery practice amp for private backyard use when I feel like it. But I would get a wireless guitar system and plug in that way. I'm starting to hate cords.

I bought one and LOVED it. I used it for about a two hours when I got it and then when I got back from work the next day (after the wireless sender had been plugged in) I tried using it and it died after 5 minutes. Left it charging again and it would die in less than 5 minutes. I had to return it. I will say this though; I liked it so much that had guitar center (🤮) had offered to replace it instead of just refunding it, I would have gotten another.

Without the APP, you didn't get the correct way to drive it. It's like you use the traditional way to drive TESLA. Nothing wrong, just old school and new fashion.

I had one. It was really bad. I spoke to NUX customer service. Let's just say... the person I was speaking to, bless him, was likely born without a brain. In the end, I sent it back. The issue was that if you used it wirelessly, as intended, it created a very noticeable and distracting buzz. The sounds were OK and even good at times if you used a cable to connect, but wirelss was unusable at low volumes. I wanted to like it, but I couldn't get past the buzz.

Maybe it's the bt connection that is too cheap and gets mixed if there are more connections near or wonky walls that suffocate the signal, I live in a flat that even bt buds get interference occasionally

I still can't see past the Spark 40 for a home practice amp it does absolutely everything I need it to and sounds great at home and the bass issue was solved long ago with the addition of the EQ pedal. Only con would be it's a bit intimidating for a beginner due to all the features but you have to start/learn sometime.

Hi Elmo, I really like your Gear reviews. But for practice AMP one important criteria nowadays is bluetooth support to easely play using backing tracks. My dream would be a boss katana mini with bluetooth support but it don t have it. That's why my best practice AMP is the Black Star fly3 bt version. And with thé inexpesive speaker extension sound is clearly enhanced. Anyway I still hope to see a boss katana mini with BT, one day, perhaps...

Late comment, but why people just don't buy bluetooth dongle? They are not expensive, sound quality is very good at these days and there's aux in port in the amps. I use Bluetooth dongle in my solid state Fender Mustang 2x12 and it works great.

I owned it for 4 years and very happy with it on the go. Spark mini and spark go did not exist yet. Without the app you tested 5% of it's possibilities. Also factory presets are so bad it seems they focused to provide the worst possible combinations

it depends what you plan to play. More oldschool stuff = squier, modern stuff=ibanez. Cort G200 must be a in between. Redhill guitar I dont know nothing about

The NUX Mighty Air is complete crap. I've had it for a couple of years and it has intermittent connection issues with the jam tracks. Is it just that I was unlucky because I happened to get a faulty unit? If so, I was unlucky three times in a row. The one I have now is the third one, after two exchanges. So, three out of three turned out to be complete crap, for me.

I believe the wireless connection has an issue if your smartphone is in close proximity with the unit. I had this issue, have to keep the phone away from it.

Ironically, when the signals were breaking up, I tried to troubleshot by placing the phone even closer to the NUX unit and the problem persisted. Now I'll try your suggestion. Thanks agian.

@@frankentronics hi you're welcome. Also make sure it has the latest firmware. The one I'm using now 2.3.1 or something like that. It's in the nux website on the amp page at the bottom..there is a download links with instructions how to update. Overall really good amp tbh the built-in speaker isn't super great but if you take the headphones out to another bigger more powerful speakers it's actually impressive or try over headphones as well. Good luck

Nice one Elmo. This has confirmed in my mind something I have long suspected. I think all practice amps are a waste of time and money. Chasing a 'perfect' controllable tone for home use? There are plenty of great plugin options for that, and you're automatically ready to record if inspiration strikes. Other that than buy a loud amp, and book some studio time so you can properly play it, or use headphones.

Well. I have both. Don't focus on the KZbin sound. I much prefer the NUX over the Blackstar.
