It's time for a new adventure! After having trekked through many of these games time and time again, I wanted to have one final ultimate challenge in the vanilla mainline Pokemon franchise... Can I beat, every SINGLE Pokemon game in chronological order in a hardcore nuzlocke setting, and without reusing a single Pokemon in any other game? For instance, if I use Bulbasaur in Red version, I won't be able to use it in Blue, Yellow, Firered, or any other game. Come along on this journey with me and find the struggles, the cuts, the innovations, the strategies, and the potential laughs along the way.

Plus it feels like many modern RPGs aren't turn based, I prefer turn based because it gives me time to think. The fact it is a Creature Collector with many critters I can befriend is also a factor though. If you like making friends with critters and like farming sims I recommend looking at Paleo Pines and of course the more well known Slime Rancher.

Same. I don’t want to watch a video where the creator is made at their audience. I half paid attention to the rest. And his rant seems to miss the point that Pokémon is such a big franchise that it has a diverse fandom with multiple reasons that people like it. Not everyone wants a challenging turn-based RPG. I want to explore with these creatures and to see all the different mons be used in unique ways. Unique ways like not reusing them across multiple games. I will probably finish this series out of sunk cost fallacy alone at this point.

glad i'm not the only one. i usually find his tangents and jabs towards this series funny since he is spittin' about how flawed they are, as someone who genuinely love this franchise. but tangent about pokemon fans needing to play other games cuz not many people watched his non-pokemon content genuinely tilted me to the point where i had to mute the vid so that he can stfu. like no SHIT there's better games than the mainline ones: who cares? i still choose to play these games anyways because i vibe with its gameplay, pokemon rosters, the worldbuilding, etc. and guess what? i can ALSO like better games than it too at the same time. shocking, ik but anyways, gonna end my own tangent there since y'all get my frustration at this point.

My sentiments exactly. I find it interesting that he complains about the staleness and shallowness of Pokemon, but he built up his channel on it all and almost exclusively makes videos about the series. I watched his Castlevania video, I love that series. But the video was kinda boring, more that that game specifically is hard to make interesting as it’s so simple and basic. Not knocking him for that, learning experience. But damn dude, you tried something new and different from your norm, it didn’t land like you wanted, and you shame us for it?

Both the Lets Go series and Legends would make for nye perfect sequels. The gen 2 Pokedex is far weaker than gen 1's both in availability and Pokemon strength, so a mechanically basic version with denser routes would work way better than it did in Kanto. If they do a Legends sequel, I really hope the rebalance how many aggressive Pokemon you find in each region because spending 80% of your time running away from Pokemon after the first area gets pretty annoying after awhile, that and auto aggro after it breaks a ball regardless of how far away you are

I'm gonna be real, the reason I personally prefer the Pokemon content is because I don't personally care to play games that are super challenging. I don't think I'd bother playing a lot of the more "complex" RPGs unless they were specifically compelling to me in a personal way. It's not that I haven't played any, but Pokemon is simple and that's a positive thing for me. I don't play games for challenge, period. I play them because they're enjoyable. For some, of course, that may make it boring for them, and that's okay. But I'm more likely to watch a Pokemon video because it's familiar, and I don't really find myself needing other games (or content about them) a lot of the time. There is so much going on in my IRL that any advice to "play other games because they are better and more challenging" is just a reason for me to NOT play them. That said, I do really enjoy this series and the other videos I've seen from you, so I don't mean to be rude in any way. I just hope this perspective can be helpful in understanding why some people do prefer the Pokemon content. And of course, I can only speak for myself, but I'm sure that there's at least a handful of others who may share a similar sentiment. Just my two cents anyway.

I agree. Pokémon has a large fan base because people can have different reasons to enjoy it. Some can use it as a gateway to turn-based RPGs, sure. But there others who don’t want that. I like exploring and discovering new Pokémon (or new uses for the Pokémon) that grow the dex. I have a friend that loves to team build even if he doesn’t really do anything with them, and I know someone else who likes to collect Pokémon. You are certainly not alone in enjoying Pokémon but not looking for a more “complex RPG.”

I do play games with better story than pokemon, but here's the thing, I don't usually watch other people play those games. Pokemon has never had less than 12000000000000 possible party compositions by species alone. Literally every challenge is unique. There are usually only as many as a few thousand controlable playthrough variables total in other RPGs (basically as many as a single fixed party in pokemon). Fun to play, sometimes even 2 or 3 times, but not enough variability to experience it hundreds of times via youtube videos.

It only makes sense that you face so few competent trainers. At the time of PLA, humans and Pokemon were not co-existing as well as they do in the present. Most people fear Pokemon, and they regularly attack people who enter the wild. Since the player came from the present, they come from a world where knowing how to co-exist and raise Pokemon is practically common knowledge. There are barely any other trainers out there, let alone competent ones like you and Volo.

With like… your Pokémon rant the main problem is this: none of the games you listed are creature collector games, for lack of a better word to describe pokemon. Like I enjoy Live a Live and other more complex turn based jrpgs, but if I want something simple on catching and battling monsters, the main options you’ve got are Pokémon, Digimon, TemTem, Nexomon and Casette Beasts. The options are extraordinarily slim due to Pokémon’s massive grip on the genre as a whole. While it’s diversified more in recent years, the main one here if I want a team of monsters I catch, train and battle is Pokémon. If I go to a restruant, and I’m craving chicken and the only chicken dish they have is chicken nuggets I’ll order that. I’d love to have some chicken parm or another chicken dish but all they have is nuggets so that’s what I’ll get because it’s my only option. The restaurant could have some great alligator dishes and I’m told to try it it tastes close enough to chicken, but I came here for chicken. That’s the problem with creature collectors vs wider more complex jrpgs. Sure they may have shared elements but fundamentally they are two different gaming genres. So for people who want more from Pokémon while still having a creature collector: try Digimon Cyber Sleuth/Hackers Memory or Casette Beasts. They’re in the same genre but the stories and mechanics have more depth that people want from Pokémon.

Monster collecting is a whole genre that has more than what you listed, but unfortunately it's not as accessible outside of Japan, or when it is, it's not well-known at all--especially some of the older ones, as it seems younger people just don't know what's existed in decades past. ChaoticMeatball talking about how FireRed was his first game and he was only 3 years old made me realize just how young he still is. The franchise is older than he is. I was playing Pokemon for years before he was even born. I also was aware of and/or played other things like Dragon Warrior Monsters (now Dragon Quest Monsters) and Monster Rancher 4. I've also played and enjoy plenty of other RPGs. I still come back to Pokemon time and again because I genuinely like it. I watch Pokemon videos because I genuinely like those. His rant about his numbers doesn't make much sense to me because like, I'll seek out other videos of other games I like, but if I follow a channel that's built largely on one thing, it's because I want to see that thing. If they post something else seemingly at random, yeah, I'm probably not going to watch it because that's not what I signed up for. It'd be like if I turned on Food Network and inbetween their typical programming, they put in some animal documentary. I like those and watch them all the time, but it's not what I turned Food Network on for. Same idea really. Not sure why he doesn't seem to understand that.

that's not really the magic of pokemon. if you ask me, that example is more an unhealthy attachment. if they got into the pokemon video games, what's realistically stopping them from trying to broaden their horizons? If anything, pokemon being so omnipresent is more a curse. its a merch brand with thousands of different products, an anime, 3 spinoff anime simultaneously, a game franchise, several spinoff games on phone and switch, the list goes on. they're trying to hook EVERYONE in and while it definitely works for a lot, others see the oversaturation of content as tedious and overbearing. even pokemon fans get so annoyed at them doing so much stuff or seeing their sub feed full of nothing but pokemon uploads. and i say this as a person who LOVES pokemon, i dont like *all* my sub feed to be pokemon :P

Tutorials being skippable in subsequent playthroughs is a good game design. But gamefreak will never do that because they don't want you to have subsequent playthroughs. They want you to stay on the same save until the next game comes out. That's why deleting a save is always a hidden mechanic, and having multiple saves is only possible through multiple accounts on the switch.

Yeah I have to agree with a lot of comments here. It's not that pokemon fans don't play anything else. It's that you're cannibalizing your own content by trying to do variety on a channel that's majority pokemon content. The alogirithm of course is going to recommend all the similar pokemon videos whenever one of those is watched and thus your non-pokemon stuff gets pushed down. Maybe making a second channel is the optimal strategy here because you'll have tons of variety rather than focusing majorly on one game series with sprinkles of others thrown in. Like it or not, people look to certain content creators for certain content and probably won't watch the stuff that's not similar to that even if it's from that same creator, but it also can totally work if you commit enough to it. There are definitely creators who have done a successful pivot to variety content, but it doesn't work if it's only a small percentage of the videos. Definitely consider seeing if a second channel works if you have enough ideas for variety content because that might be less risky compared to completely pivoting and would get more eyes on it than dumping it here occasionally between 20 pokemon videos.

Your fans are not to blame for you not getting views on the content you make, be it pokemon or whatever other franchise. If it were content worth watching, people would. You should always look towards yourself. For example, I personally feel that not holding yourself up to standard as you realised at 38:04 is one reason why you could be stagnating

Wowee, Gardevoir sure did great this game. Also, if you plan to get the Path of Solitude as part of your Oak's Challenge (since you do get a stamp in the dex for each Pokemon that clears it), I wish you the best of luck. Path of Solitude for every mon takes SO long.

Why is this guy mad that his Pokémon content is popular? He chose to make Pokémon content, nobody forced him to. No problem if he decided to make different videos on things he’s more passionate about & finds more fulfilling (while simultaneously understanding that the fan base for whatever new venture might not be as big or marketable as Pokemon). But hearing him whine about the kind of people watching & supporting his content is just pathetic & hypocritical.

I'm not mad my Pokemon content is popular, I just don't understand why it seems the majority of Pokemon fans are unwilling to touch other games. At least from the reactions I've had with other viewers as well as my occasional non-Pokemon videos, they do horribly in comparison because people are like "this isn't Pokemon therefore it is bad" and it makes zero sense.

I have to say, I've been absolutely loving this series, and I'm so happy to see it nearing completion! And absolutely, the more important thing is that you enjoy what you're doing, so I wouldn't worry about the Gallade mistake. Regardless of that, the series is still a damn impressive feat, and you don't owe us anything, and the videos are super fun and entertainment and your sense of humor is great, so we're having a good time no matter what. Take care of yourself though. As much as I'm looking forward to the next part, it's more important that no one ruin their mental health just for entertainment.

Imagine starting a KZbin channel dedicated to Pokemon, building an audience of Pokemon fans, and then complaining that your non-Pokemon content isn't as popular among your audience of Pokemon fans. It'd be like if the NFL Network started showing baseball games and then got confused about the decline in viewership. Turns out, when people go to a Pokemon focused KZbin channel, they want to watch Pokemon. Who could've guessed!? I subscribe to all sorts of channels, and I subscribe to those channels because of the content they produce. If, for example, a true crime channel I watch started posting Pokemon challenges, I probably wouldn't watch considering that isn't what I came for and it doesn't fit. Making a new channel for your other videos is probably a much better idea than trying to jam those videos on your channel that has been primarily Pokemon based since the start.

Going on the "i wish pokemon fans played other game" tangent really soured the video for me. I understand that you're getting burnt out on this franchise but that was kinda condescending of you. I thought this was a pokemon channel at first which is why I watched only the pokemon/nuzlocke content. Honestly I do think a separate channel where you do non-pokemon stuff would be smart. Maybe plug it at the end of each vid.

Look dude if you aren't happy playing Pokémon games as a profession anymore why not call it a day and move on to other things or go out and find a job offline like the rest of us.. Most of us chose to watch Pokémon challenge runs because we like watching Pokémon challenge runs. Talking down to your audience about how we dont like the alternative stuff you like isn't exactly a good way to engage with us and its coming across like you think we're all too stupid to get into other game series? I get theres a lot of pressure to keep releasing content as part of your job but that's how it is for all of us going to work every day and only getting to play these games or watch KZbin videos in our spare time to then hear the constant complaining is just exhausting.

You're right, there are so many better games, and that's the problem. 13,000 of your fans may be into Castlevania, 30k into Yu-Gi-Oh 20k into sonic, 5k into cod, 15k into old school RuneScape, 4k into uncharted, 50k into Fortnite. Maybe even half of your fans like wwe, but the other half would drift away if you focus on that, and thats a big loss. There's just so many games that require so much time that you just sorta have to pick a few and let the others slide by because there's just so much that you can't just dedicate your heart to. Pokemon fans are pretty diverse. Most of us come here to listen to you ramble about Pokemon. If I wanna listen to someone talk about RuneScape, I'll go to my RuneScape tubers, and thats just sort of how KZbin users work. If you aren't regularly uploading the relative content here, it's just a one-off. Your fans came here for a reason and that's Pokemon. It just the brand that you've built and that stuck the hardest. Diverging from the path could lose your watchers because the algorithm will stop recommending you videos from a channel you don't click on. You don't have to overwhelm yourself doing different topics. Putting it somewhere else is a good idea, but if you lack here, your channel will shrink in viewership. People who do that have teams of people to help them. Wake wise choices, keep your career going with what's working, even if it's boring. Plenty of people do the same job for 50 years. Consider yourself lucky it's Pokemon and not something like kaizo Mario 😅
