If it's something you have tested a couple times to prove it always works with the factory cooler and never with the alpha cool block I would guess that something is making contact that shouldn't with the block. @ManuFortisАй бұрын
Since you have the machines to possibly do something like this idea of mine... here it goes. I'd kind of like to see a hybrid of AIO with air cooling as normally seen. To do this as I am thinking of it, you would put the radiator for the AIO stuff all on the backplate side of the GPU, with vents for airflow through the backplate maybe? And then have a special waterblock that is essentially a giant heatsink like a normal air cooled setup would have. Then you have the usual suspects, like fans setup to the heatsink to pull air through. With venting in the right spots to allow for the air to be pulled through in the right areas, my hope is that it will help keep things cooled both ways in a way that kind of synchronizes their cooling capability. The idea is that while the water cooling side of things is always pulling heat away from the heatsink, the fans are also ensuring the water block side of things is always dissipating heat via the heatsink regardless of the water cooling setup running. This way if one fails, the other can take over, though at a disadvantage to some degree now perhaps? I suspect that if I am correct in my thinking on this, that resulting card will be one of the best cooled and probably quietest too due to the combined cooling. But it's also gonna be a fat GPU. Since you already made this happen on such a small scale, I'm thinking modifying the shroud to double as a heatsink by attaching it to the water block via heatpipes might do the trick. But the shroud will need to be metal now, in some fin like design, with a fan moving air through it. So you may need to extrude out the fins a bit more, and have them layer overtop the fan already attached. But, you also have that other fan available too. Perhaps a push/pull method could be put into play?
@nfcerick3634Ай бұрын
That sounds like a wild design, but the thickness would probably make it undesirable for most builds. A 3 slot card is already pushing the limits. Thanks for sharing your idea.
@ManuFortisАй бұрын
@@nfcerick3634 Yeah, thanks. And yeah, like i was saying, it's gonna be a fat one. And the design might not work well with some motherboards, now that I think about it. It would definitely overhand the m.2 slot between the PCIex16 slot and the CPU. Definitely gonna cut it close to the heatsink too on the CPU... But I was hoping this could bring it down to a technical 2 slot size limit on the usual downward facing side in a vertical setup, by putting some of it on the backside instead like explained. So, still 3 slots technically... but also not? If it can be made to fit that is. If something like this could be done, just for the giggles of it all, that would be cool to see how hot it gets, or doesn't.

@gucky4717Ай бұрын
12:15 I think air cooling is better. Yes you may need a larger heatsink, but you save space by not using pumps or the tiny reservoir, space that can be used for a bigger heatsink. The major difference between water and air is how the heat is transported away from the core itself. There are similar sized GPUs like the 4070 Super, which have a TDP of 220W already, raising that to 250W with liquid metal is no problem.

I fail to understand why adding water wold improve thermals. I thought the whole point of watercooling was to take the heat elsewhere, adding a chunkier radiator capable of dissipating more heat.
@NotFromConcentrateАй бұрын
You are right; adding water doesn't improve thermals necessarily (it replaces the job of heat pipes). The point is the machining and design prove it's possible to go bigger or smaller depending on your needs. In this instance, the water is bringing heat to an offset radiator, which is going to blow air out the side of the open case, which you can see at the end. You could do that with heatpipes, but water is better at that job.

i wish we had more unique designs again.. 1:02 i mean times where those cards existed where simply the best absolutely crazy design. i also wish that we finally get a proper water cooled card directly from the card maker and not just an AIO solution where the vram is not cooled. I mean a real waterblock together with pump integrated into the radiator. and everything connected in a way so its easy to swap out parts and refill everything. All connected with soft tubing. or a design like urs, where absolutely everything is integrated into the cards heatsink /shroud. ur build really reminds me of the times when we had crazy custom designs. Well done!
@nfcerick3634Ай бұрын
As do I. I think Acer failed with their implementation because they didn't cool the VRAM and other crucial components adequately. We've reached a point where power efficiency has been discarded and GIANT GPUs are the norm. If they focused on power efficiency and cooler quality, then large coolers wouldn't be necessary.
