Hey guys, one thing I forgot to add, don't get too caught up with your FPS counter when you are trying to improve your FPS Performance, DCS like other flight sims are subject to massive swings in FPS, so use the counter as a baseline, but once you get to a point where DCS feels and plays well, turn off the counter, it will really increase your enjoyment of the simulator!

FYI, Secondary Shadows, Is Shadows Rendered by Secondary Light Sources (Carrier Island Lights, Airfield Hanger and Taxi Lights, etc etc). Primary Shadows are rendered by Sun/Moon.

Hey Spuds! Have not updated yet, going through some medical issues right now but will do this evening to see the what for. Ty so very much for the settings. I have a MSI laptop red dragon with the Nvidia graphics card and I do believe it's on the higher end but not sure I'll have to check that out. I'm sure the specs are in the system. It's always getting upgrades all the time. Taking off and long grass as an old rotor head. That grass will lay flat just at takeoff then as you increase an elevation the grass will shag as I noticed as you pulled up on the collective. Thank you so much for all that you do! Beautiful. The downwash on the grass and trees looks great. I think it will help with that "sense" of how high you are rather than relying on the radar altimeter. I think the colour grading will be great for cinematic and screenshot makers. I think, but I'm not sure, what ED's idea with that colour grading was to try to replicate the film effects of different film colouring techniques like Cinecolor and Technicolor. That's what it looks like to me. And if that's the case and its effects are accurate to the Cinecolor and Technicolor processes, that could be very useful for cinematic content creators like Phenom for creating historical cinematics. I find that talking while flying is tough as well, but you're still flying beautifully and gracefully. I find it especially hard when it's something different to what I'm doing in the cockpit, so I usually go quiet when I'm doing stuff like landings or AAR with my mates.

Haven't played DCS in awhile, but once I saw this update I immediately loaded into the first F-16 Red Flag campaign at Nellis. On the tarmac, startup with tons of AI planes starting up and taxing around and I'm getting my monitors' max refresh rate of 118-120. My monitor is a 2K utlrawide with a 120hz refresh rate. Don't think I've ever seen this level of performance. This is also my first time loading DCS since I've upgraded my CPU from the old 2013 intel extreme CPU i7 5960x (4.3ghz 8 cores /16 threads). Some of that performance could be due to the new CPU, but my GPU hasn't changed since I last played DCS when multithreading was released. Impressive AMD 7800x3d RTX 2080ti 32GB DDR5 6000mhz Samsung 980 Pro 1TB M.2 OS Drive Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB M.2 (Game Drive) All settings at or near max. Increased the new LOD Switch Factor setting to max. DLSS set to quality.

Really awesome update with a ton of cool features, but the one thing that caught my eye the most is the KH-29 update. They overhauled the FM and external model of both of the KH-29 Kedge missiles, which is seemingly very random. The Su-25T seems have been left alone for a while, and that’s the only flyable aircraft that can fire the Kedge. Is it in preparation of an upcoming aircraft? There’s the Su-17, but that hasn’t really been announced. I mean I’d die for an F1EQ…

DCS 2.9 update last night is looking good, but I'm not sure what's the best graphic settings. However in the MT version there's performance increase throughout. And then you have the colour theme choices. Plus, I'm loving the foliage animations and dust effect when it comes to the helicopters down-wash. So, well done, ED

I too am running the 3090. I have all the sliders and settings maxed out. Nice. But all you would be downloaders beware: You need 80 GB of free HD space to download this update. You will get a lot of it back once the download is over, but unless you have the space, expect the big red X message. I had to remove 2 maps to update then I reloaded. Meh...that's the price of going with a small HD. Should have gotten the 2 TB...

When the update was over it deleted all the obsolete files and now I am back where I was. I imagine it needs temporary space while it does its thing

World 2.9 is good, but the devs have a long way to go with optimizing and stability. I'd also like to see some future updates specifically for VR as there is a sizeable proportion of players who only use a headset. Unfortunately as good as this engine is, it has limitations and we will need to wait for a new title to see that changed.

VulcanAPI should smooth things a bit, but engine overhaul for low-level stutterness will be needed. Glad DLAA is there to get better visuals in VR with little to no cost, at least.

ultra-wide - depends on your resolution. 3440x1440 only got 5M pixels to draw, compared to 9M for folks who jumped to full 4K. 5K was 200fps already graphics wise, only corner cases (try to eject into forest and walk there) and logic/physics of games itself. DLAA - that should save some FPS (ms) and visuals for VR thought.

Meh FG seems to be just trickery to artificially boost the FPS numbers. Perhaps at some later point you wouldn't be able to tell but so far that hasn't been the case. Also for the fact that it negatively affects latency.

Hi @Spudknocker, my apologies if this has already been asked, I'm new to DCS so still trying to get my bearings, but when you talked about the "GoPro" view, around the 14 minute, you say that you can move it around using the W,A,S,D keys. I am trying this with the F-15E using the default key bindings in the View category, but I don;t have those keys bound to anything in View. In fact the W is bound to my brakes and the A to autopilot, etc. Please help, thanks.

Hello one question I play pc/vr and yesterday I had an idea is it possible to put better resolution in your dominant eye and lower one in your non dominant, I think it would work because most of what you see comes from the dominant eye, so lowering the non dominant eye quality would be pretty much unnoticeable but it would leave more pc power for better resolution for the other eye

It only works with multithreading unfortunately. But I have serious issues with MT in VR. After replacing 1080ti with 6950xt DCS MT became unplayable although it gives more FPS. It gives weird stuttering effect without FPS drop, it is unrelated to FPS

DLSS ghosting is kinda annoying. Also screen space shadows do not display right in VR, following your point of view instead of the sun, which is a pity as I find them very light on my GPU. Otherwise it's a very good update. Using Quest Pro and RTX3090.

I spent 4 hours trying to get DLSS to work in 2.9 to no avail. The dropdowns are greyed out. When I looked this up, there were hundreds of posts saying the same thing. I have an RTX 3080, I updated the drivers, I ran both the MT and non-MT variants. Nothing...furious that we waited this long and it came out defunct for thousands upon thousands of people.

My 3070 is basically pegged to 180fps in 1200p(ancake), but still struggles to hold 45fps in VR with a Quest at 2400v(ertical). I only discovered recently that I'm seeing 90fps in Virtual Desktop thanks to that XR2 Super Resolution thing. Weirdly enough, running the CV1 at the same res has it pretty much locked at actual 90fps... but you simply don't wanna have to use that HMD anymore if there's a Q3 available XD

"NEW: Added support for AMD FSR 2, FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) also using an upscaling algorithm to improve performance. Also like DLSS, it will have little to no effect if you are CPU-limited. Multi-Threading must be enabled to enable FSR 2. WIP. NOTE: When using DLSS or FSR 2, the image may be blurry. This can be addressed with the new Sharpening slider."

Not really. E.g. my reshade pulls depth, contrast, blacks, certain colours and adds lens darkening against the sun. DCS hardly gives you any options besides certain preset filters that aren't really useful from what I see, while Reshade lets you do so, so much in the postprocessing to completely overhaul the areas where DCS lacks.

it's worth noting that some VR sets do motion reprojection themselves and it's similar to frame gen in some ways, so if you use VR you should check if you can enable this feature on yours.

My DCS was running flawlessly before the update Intel i9 / 4080 Win10pro. I am also running the Pimax. Somewhere down in the weeds something changed that made the game slow as molasses and buggy. I suspect it is in the OpenXR/PimaxXR module. Does anyone have a similar configuration and were you able to get it running? Cheers

My 4 core CPU now runs at 90 plus percent. Video freeze stuttering and generally sittin waiting for graphics to load. Boight a new 3060 with 12 GB Ram. Made no difference. Can't play it anymore. Too many different opinions on what changes to make to improve performance that sem to focus on reducing graphical qualities. Really frustrating. Can't afford a 6 grand computer for gaming.

I have an RTX 3080ti and I encountered some problems setting up DLSS. In multiplayer I experienced several freezes that lasted up to about 8 seconds. I also noticed a strange shadow effect on the numbers projected in the instrumentation, in the TGP and even outside on the ground I saw dark spots appear for a few fractions of a second. I switched back to 4x MSAA mode and everything was fine.

I’ve worked a lot with colour, and my monitor, to officially match, asks for a gamma of 2.2. The industry standard for, say, JPEG photos or what I set the display front end with my raw video camera. But.. DCS is completely artificial So there’s no real world matching requirements! I find the sun too bright many times. In particular with the HUD on the Viper or the Bug. So… D’oh. I’ve been hoping devs would add a sunshade, like with the Mirage 2000. This is what happens if you do something for 20 years. You stop questioning. OF COURSE! I can just drop the gamma a bit, like say, to 1.9! Jebuz. I can be thick sometimes.

I might just be able to heat up my 3080Ti without reshade finally. Hopefully the new radios we got makes SRS obsolete too. Thanks for your service SRS authors, we really appreciate the work (even if we don't talk much)

Grate unless you run AMD /FSR it now looks like I have Vaseline in my eyes. Even if I use my old settings now and none of the new stuff that's been added . Tryed for hours and nothing is helping

I don't know If someone has the same problem as me, but I'm unable to change the settings to DLAA. It appears to me as blank and imposible to click on it.

@@dpteqz. Yeah, there is no fix If your PC don't have a superior graffic card. You are unable to change those settings. Sorry, but I don't recall know from one you can edit.

i cant turn it on its greyed out mt is on and i use the steam version but a fiend of me got also the steam version at it works we both got the rtx 2070s

Interesting, do you have the latest drivers? it might be something to do with your nvidia control panel settings
