Well, games haven't really come with DX 12 and Vulkan yet. Doom has Vulkan but the 480 would instantly win that. And 1440p is pretty useless unless it's 4k. 1080p is already better than 900p. So why use 1440p and sacrifice graphics if all you're going to get is higher pixels?

+??? yes the rx480 would win the doom on vulkan benchmark. That's because amd's current architecture is better with dx12 and vulkan (whether it's async or because all consoles run amd hardware, or something else I don't know, but the benchmarks show it). It's NOT bias to include it, it IS bias not to -as was done in this 'review'. dx12 and vulkan are the future, and the first game to come out with vulkan shows a huge increase in performance for the rx480. Hitman on dx12 is also better on amd. What's worse, the 1060 also scores higher on doom with vulkan (true only a few fps, but it's higher nonetheless) making it even stranger not to include it.

On paper it's most of the time AMD > nVidia. BUT (and that's a BIG BUT) the way nVidia utilizes what it has is Much more efficient than what AMD does. It's similar to the iOS vs Android debate. Android flagships now ship with 3-4GB of RAM, and iPhones have 1-2GB, and yet, they perform very similarly if not even faster on the iOS side which seems worse on paper. It's almost exactly the same for AMD vs nVidia

All reviewers said it, the 1060 has to beat the rx480 without being to close to the 1070. If nVidia would release another card, I don't expect it to beat the 480 performance wise.

that's what nvidia damage control wants you to believe. Nvidia's answer to the rx480 was this card but they failed miserably. These AMD fanboys are crying like crazy. GTX 970 is the real price to performance card. I got my gtx 970 ftw+ for $120 second hand (Negotiable) and overclocked it and it performs better than a stock gtx 980. There is no point buying gtx 1060 unless you can get a very good deal , it overclocks good. I'd say gtx 1060 or a cheap 970 , also rx 480 for 1080p , 980 ti for 1440p (you find one for 400 bucks and it is totally worth it because it overclocks like a champ) and overclocked 980 ti for 4K , but if you want to get best single card in the market for a little bit over $600 and don't plan to overclock for 4k gaming as well . get a gtx 1080.

Just as AMD got blocked in CPU market even tho AMD contributed a lot to the development of CPUs, took the lead from Intel who played dirty and paid hefty money to the companies that buy AMD products to stop buying. Which destroyed the AMD's income with making their investment of development useless. Yes, because using the newest and least common technologies as a benchmark is a good idea for the review. Majority of the games don't run, on dx12, nor benefit from it, also not so many games utilize Vulkan API yet. So what's the point of making a review focused on that? You both have no idea what you're talking about. Of course, it would've been nice to have all of them included side by side, but not as a primary benchmark for comparison. It's as dumb as judging monitors by their ability to support 5k resolution. That day is far, far away. For the time being, keep your AMD bias to yourselves.

because the Nvidia cards are designed overall better? What do you think Nvidia does with its money? they invest heavily into R&D, your nvidia card is always going to run less hot, use less power, and run more efficiently, the RX 480 can look as awesome as it wants on paper, but in the end its still just another card where they boost the core count, and boost the frequencies to the point where the car is almost on fire constantly, and made no actual changes, where nvidia spent money and time to at least make a change, and to push tech forward.

+Mike Brown 50$? for an overall better designed card, cooler running, less power using and so on? If someone was looking for longevity Nvidia is the obvious choice. If all that's important to you is initial $/FPS go right ahead buy, but Nvidias better power delivery and cooling will easily push this card well past the rx480 when over clocking comes into play.

The fact that AMD drivers get better over time and Nvidia driverst just stagnate and cards lose support after each generation coming out, makes AMD the only logical choice because by the end of the year the Rx 480 will perform better in games and will still be cheaper (if the demand doesnt skyrocket)

+Spencerwalker21 they won't and can't because there pascal architecture is already set in stone. So you will have to wait for their next generation to even possibly have half the shit AMD has had on the GPU 's fit years now which is why with the implementation of vulkan and directx 12 is like a free generation upgrade for every AMD GPU owner currently. The new api are based off mantle which is AMD tech, and you better believe that open gl and directx 11 is a thing of the past since both new API 's make it easier to port from console which by the way consoles are full AMD tech which means if developers want their games to run better they will start using either vulkan solely on ps4 or directx 12 on Xbox. And both of those API 's run better on AMD. Look if you want nvidia I can't stop you, all I can do is try to tell you that if you are wanting to make a machine now that is future proofed for the next 2 to 3 years your better option is AMD since as soon as everyone starts adopting the new API and they will! It will work best on AMD at least till the next generation GPU comes from nvidia which will be the 1100 series and even then we can't be sure.

What I don't understand about AMD fanboys is that they are always on about "wait until this!" or "dx12 and async!" and all this shit. I understand where they're coming from but it seems like they have always been this way. I'm not trying to sound like a Nvidia fanboy but right now if you want a faster card, then you should buy the 1060. All of this "wait for this thing to come out!" and "don't get this card cause faster ones will come out later!" is annoying because everyone already fucking knows that better things will come out later. I've seen so many people ask for help with their computer builds in reddit posts and comment sections and I always see AMD fanboys saying shit like "this card is ok now but AMD vega is coming soon so you should wait a few months, it's not worth it". If you want to build a system right now with a $250-$300 gpu budget then the 1060 is the better option. All of you AMD fans can say "well this is cheaper" and "dx12!" all you want but it doesn't excuse the fact that the 1060 performs better in ~80-90% of benchmarks.

also you don't consider the $ / performance the 1060 may beat it majorily in dx11 BUT in no way does it justify its price (which luke already demonstrated in the video) because likely.. the 1060 is going to be in high demand (up to $50 or more / especially the founders edition) for 7-10 fps more.. and considering that the gtx 1060 has less vram to max out games with and has 0 sli support Simply put, its the rx480 that holds better value in the end.

In highly optimized dx12 games the RX480 _may_ come out ahead. We have one example of a highly optimized game (DOOM) where the RX480 does markedly better with Vulkan. Vulkan-supporting games may not be very common though, compared to DX12 games. My impression is that the RX480 will close the gap in DX12 games, or even come out ahead sometimes, if the developer uses the DX12 API (near-)optimally.

While I like Nvidia cards this 1060 is a total fail. Nvidia have come forward and have said the reason there is no SLI is because people that buy cheap cards simply do not want SLI and so ether Nvidia is completely out of touch with their customers or they are talking shit, I think the reason there is no SLI is simply that 2 1060s would be equal to or more powerful than 1 1080 and allot cheaper and Nvidia do not want this they want you yo go out and buy the more expensive 1080. This is where AMD have a winner here because there card is a little less powerful yes but its also around 50% cheaper so people that buy cheap cards do so because they have a low budget and with the 480 it gives them the option to save over time buy another card to boost performance something the 1060 has been forbidden to do. As a rough price estimate if you are paying £299 for a 1060 you are already 50% closer to buying another 480 so its better to buy a 480 at around £200 save the other £99 and then save up the other £100 over the coming months and slap another 480 in and get 1070-1080 performance.

or it is simply because sli/crossfire is a horrible, unrelieable and poorly implemented mess most of the time. People that buy a 200-300$ card arent interested or simply cant affort sli/crossfire, thats a fact. If they could they would go straight for the next higher tier, since that is always the better option, power consumtion and reliability wise. Why spend double the money for 40-60% (at best) more performance? It is just extra work for Nvidia to support something barely anyone uses.

480 killer? Not likely. The 1060 is 6-7% faster and costs what, $60 more? The 480 is skill king of the budget/value card, which is what it was made for. Nvidia should stick to the top 5% where they belong.

yet another so called 'review' where most of the games being reviewed are biased towards nvidia. Currently nvidia owner (980ti SLI since beginning) but I hate how nvidia i) gets away with 3.5gb fiasco (was previously 970 SLI owner) ii) pays off developers and gimps games with gimpworks iii) gets away with poor sli and surround drivers (have had eyefinity before way better when it comes to resolutions, and also crossfire is as good as SLI IMHO) , iv) pulls crap like founders edition v) gimps older nvidia cards with newer drivers vi) shades benchmarks with pure brute force to gain more FPS by lowering quality via color compression technologies vii) buys reviewers with booze, cheap meat and open parties viii) just a totally unethical company focused on stripping dollars from consumers pockets . We should totally get over this fanboy crap and support competition - AMD in this case pushing for transparency/opensource projects. Open your eyes gamers and see what NVIDIA is doing to us!
@sacamentobob8 жыл бұрын
i) 3.5gb 970 memory issues? hello this was news everywhere ii) nvidia gameworks? CD Projekt red hello? iii) have you ever had SLI + surround? try their newest drivers and see what it does to your resolution flexibility. iv) founders edition and the premiums hello? v) read up on how older nvidia cards do worse with newer drivers (I have also seen this with my nvidia cards) vi) read up on color compression and check out how nvidia textures fare against nvidia's. Ive seen this first hand. Colour compression tech on pascal > maxwell and look at the clock cycle/speeds on pascal. Doesnt take too much to put 2 and 2 together. vii) check out every nvidia release and the parties they throw + reviewers invites + biases about. Some even use nvidia exact guidance on reviews it is said. I cannot prove this true but it becomes obvious if you pay attention viii) read up on nvidia's other tricks and put all together nvidia is far shadier than one can give credit for.
@sacamentobob8 жыл бұрын
I have also had the 970 SLI and couldnt explain the stutterring I faced for the longest while till the 3.5gb memory issues came to light. Got rid of the 970s and then moved on to 980ti's SLI and it disappeared. I have been running crossfire /SLI for a very long time and have noticed that overall AMD offers more functionality in actual use (of course this diminishes when games are mostly nvidia optimised) - greater capability to increase no. of monitors, resolution changes a breeze and overall (for me anyway) less driver based issues (surprise to me as well as Ive always heard nvidia sli + surround was better but nooooo)

@brady35228 жыл бұрын
I mean, is everyone forgetting the fact that they aren't gonna make DX11 games anymore eventually? Games are VERY soon going to be centered around DX12 and Vulkan, which has already shown to have better support with AMD since day 1. If you are looking for a card that can play the current games out RIGHT NOW, then yeah get whatever u want. But if you want something to LAST, and something to Crossfire (I know crossfire sucks) then the 480 will be the better option.

If you are trying to decide on which of these two cards to get then it's pretty simple, if you want to play a lot of VR get the GTX1060, otherwise you should be fine with the RX480. The 1060 has support for SMP which will allow it to just destroy the RX480 in VR games that utilize it (though keep in mind most VR games don't utilize it yet), but outside of VR the RX480 offers better value.

As you said it's fixed but. Actually no it the 750Ti wasn't worse as first it averaged at 62W~ ish and second the RX 480 spiked at 150W over the PCIe connector and averaged at 80W~
@loupiotable8 жыл бұрын
lol she doesn't hurt your motherboard, a motgerboard can support way more than 75W on the pcie port + the problem is fixe
@Etheoma8 жыл бұрын
Chiriac Puiu Again it's a moot point because it is fixed. But yes it *did*, and spiked more near 155W, again notice I said *spiked* and was 81W average, I was going off memory so I now have the exact numbers as why the change. media.bestofmicro.com/ext/aHR0cDovL21lZGlhLmJlc3RvZm1pY3JvLmNvbS9BL0kvNTkxMzU0L29yaWdpbmFsLzEzLUdhbWluZy0xMi1Wb2x0cy1QRUcucG5n/r_600x450.png This however was in a niche scenario with Metro Last Light at 4k, almost certainly it was because the VRAM was being filled to capacity on the 8GB model which AMD knew no one in real life would run the card at 4k for an extended period of time so it probably wasn't tested as rigorously. It was probably heavily tested in 4k in crossfire however which probably made them test 4k even less on a single card basis. But the GPU will not be used at full tilt under Crossfire because the cards are like 20%~ of the time waiting on the PCIe bus to relay communications between the two cards.

Fast forward to late 2017: the 1060 is 100 to 200€ cheaper than the 480. Fuck miners. At least the 3gb version, which is what you really need for 1080p, that much of a price difference for vram and a hair of performance is idiotic
@Diglo18 жыл бұрын
Someone forgot to mention Doom and Vulcan. Well it's just one game, but time will tell if there is more. My guess here is that even if gtx 1060 now outperforms rx 480 and price is adjusted to that, things will chance after more vulcan and dx12 gamess come around, not just dx12 or vulcan "patched" games. Most review sites show gtx 1060 being ~10% faster then rx 480. What it comes down to is how much the card costs in your country. In Finland rx 480 is around 279€ cheapest and expect gtx 1060 to be around 350€ for FE edition.
