You can always use a support leg on the far side of the gpu Gpu slag is very easy to prevent If only the companies them selves do something

I have a 1080 ti that i discovered had a strong aluminum cage of thick material screwed on to the pcb with many screws which make it extremely sturdy and prevent it to put any stress on the memory at all. Now when it starting to fail in games anyway its not memory related but I guess Vrm related on some of the phases which is not a common as memory related stuff at all. Another 1080 ti I have that does not have this cage and yes recently started to have the classic memory problem with artifacting and crashes. Its very rare to see this cage though because Nvidia want to make them fail so you should buy new ones. It wouldn't have cost much at all to do make these cages to all the cards but then they won't fail so you wouldn't buy a new one, and thus they don't. If you get one that have this cage you should hold on to it hard.

That was seriously great info, that in case of Micron memory you need the same make/date chip as you already have. I changed the faulty module, still faulty, tried another one, still same faulty memory bank. Now i know what to do. If it fails, seems like i need to send it to you for repairs:)

If you want your 2080ti to last another solution is to vertical mount it in your computer case on a PCI-E 16x extender. I have watched several 2080ti repairs and you are the first to mention that the board bents and why exactly! Amazing work, again! Thank you for the great content.

@@KrisFixGermany Hey KrisFix I have a question on a rare card that I will be receiving next week that might need your repair. It is a ASUS Matrix GTX 980 TI 6GB Platinum. According to the seller he explains that the card have artifacts like black dots on display and possible color banding. Is this related to vram failing or gpu failing. If it possible to repair it and how much will it cost roughly as I'm based in Ireland

The good thing there are no damaged pads on RAM chips. Yesterday fixed bent RTX1660. A0 and B1 chips had broken pads (more than 3 each). And underneath of GPU there were 2 broken pads.

Is that Gainward RTX 2080ti Phoenix GS? I have that model and it sag. It has a Samsung memory that I overclocked +1000mhz from the beginning, I've been using it for more than 3 years, so far nothing. What's worst is that I bought an adjustable telescopic stand for it and it sits in my drawer I don't even use it. It's good that I came across this video, I'm putting up a stand tomorrow, thanks for the video.

I really like your process of reballing memory chips. However I am NOT a fan of using Greta's lead free solder. If these chips are copper modded properly with leaded solder and arctic thermal paste then ten years from now the gamer will still be gaming his heart out. With the warped board and lead free solder I expect without a copper mod With Captan tape strips surrounding the copper I expect memory failure in the same length of time as previously.

I have a Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super that is 2 years old and it started crashing when playing WarThunder and Fortnite. The screen goes black and the fans throttle full speed. I see there are brackets being sold to help support the weight of the cards. I wish I knew about that. It makes sense that there is a lot of strain on the board. I tried benchmark software and can get it to fail. Do you think my board has the same problem?

Thanks for this excellent guide! I will add some support to the other end! I have this problem with my MSI 2070 micron 400-A (August 2018). Current solution is underclock Memory -500MHz and tune fan curves. Maybe 1 crash per 50 hours of gameplay and no more artifacting. Dodgy idea i had to fix it: turn pc upside down and overclock the memory with the fan off, then run a stress test. Yet to try it out as its "working" now @ 60FPS min for Cyberpunk 1080p, DLSS3* Balanced, RT on Med, 100-186W. Do you think it's worth sending it away for repair now in 2023? Another option is to sell it and buy something more reliable. What's a similar reliable card you could recommend? I'm thinking 3060ti or 2080ti if there are good ones.

Great stuff, I'm having an issue with my gigabyte 3070 that was shipped from Canada (I am in Scotland, UK at present). Artifacting in BIOS, and the gpu will spin down after ~5 seconds. Hi Krisfix, I have an RTA 2080 ti 8Gb for several years, while I was playing, a few days ago, some distortions appeared on the screen, an artifact, after a while the game crashes. I found a link on you tube that shows exactly, the flaw that my card makes, they look like wedges raining on you, and it does it on all games now. Great video even if I find it difficult to understand, I am French. I have a faulty 2080Ti (error 43) with a KO memory module detected by the "mats" program. I did a 6 min reflow with a heat gun on the memory but it's worse, the card no longer sends a video signal, the fans not working but it seems Windows starts up and I hear the drivers updating. Did the reflow cause a short circuit or break the RAM or something else. I had put aluminum foil around the memory. How do I check if it's RAM or something else ? If the memory is KO I ask to repair it by you ? Thks

This is why it's best to only use cases that mount the GPU vertically. Then you don't get this problem at all, as there is no bending and the weight of the GPU is applied along its board length wise. The only downside for this style is the motherboard can sag over time, but motherboards are far more forgiving, and motherboards can still contort with traditional sideways mounting anyways, as GPU's and heatsinks put pulling forces on them anyways. But cases where motherboards lay flat, are just more stable in general for longevity because the forces are compressive rather than pulling, which has far less of a chance to break soldered points. Or in other words, soldered points stay intact better when the motherboard is bowed inward from compression forces, rather than the motherboard bowed outward from pulling forces, especially since pulling forces cause the motherboard to bow unevenly and in more localized areas, while a motherboard mounted flat, bows across the entire board, reducing the overall localized curve of board distortion, putting less stress on individual components.

Lads.. its verry bice you make these repair videos.. but there is now millions video how to repair memory faults on nvidia cards.. and specially 2000 and 1000 series.. but what about other faults like power rail faults shorts.. with no enable signal.. scards stuck on 300mhz and so on.. what about AMD cards.. and specifically amd card memory faults.. if you want attract more people to your channel.. do more uncommon faults..

You only have to do with with certain micron ram as well, there is a series that had some issues by default. New micron ram is just fine as well as older micron ram on older cards.

As the 2080 Ti only has 11 GB, you need only 11 chips. The same silicon was used for the Titan where all 12 memory banks were needed.
