Great video! Love the step by step approach. Couldn't find another video specifically for the Gen 1 controller. As other comments have mentioned, all for the newer version which is a much simpler replacement. I ended up taping the buttons in place to avoid a severe psychotic break and immediate destruction of the controller. Don't know how you got those ribbon cables back in place with the buttons loose. You must have the hands of a surgeon and the patience of a saint! Thanks for the battery link. It still works and the company are great. Have now bought other batteries from them too!

Thank you for providing this excellent video. Very clear and thorough, including how to spring apart the two plastic case halves, all the extra screws inside the case to be removed to clear the pc-board for access to the battery... etc. Other DIY videos seem to be for a newer version of the controller with NiMH battery and simpler disassembly (PC-board remains in place). Will take a quick photo of mine to document the position of the four plastic buttons. Decided to subscribe and will tell my Maker friends to check out your channel.

Thanks you for the kind words. I made this as I couldn’t find a decent video of the process for this model of controller. Thanks for the Subscription too, I don’t make many videos but every sub helps and inspires me to make more.

Thank you for this. Everything I need to know. I was just looking at mine and was hoping a couple of AA’s would suffice. What a ball ache! Why couldn’t they just put a battery port on the rear panel for replacements? It looks like I won’t be playing games this New Year’s Eve and I’ll have to watch TV 🥱. I’ll order a battery and find myself half an hour of quiet time to sort it.

Thanks for the video! it was of great help to disassemble the control, but now I think I broke it putting it all back together, maybe you can give me a hint? . After I finished assembling back the control and plugged it to the usb cable to charge the new battery, the control's power button started to blink five times, one of the vibration motors starts, and then it stops, to start again a couple of seconds later. I disassembled again the control and disconnected the new battery, but the issue persists, so I probably did something wrong when putting it back together the first time, or worse, I broke it. Do you have any idea of what could be wrong? Thanks in advance!

I don’t have any idea what could be causing your issue. However, I would check that no cables have been trapped and pinched during re-assembly, I’d also check that the ribbon cables are seated correctly.

Would have been nice to know what screw driver bit I needed when I recieve battery to replace. Now I have battery and cant unscrew lol
@positivefix2 жыл бұрын
My apologies, I have just checked and the screwdriver used was a T6 Torx, 2 of the screws will need a long reach driver which I'm sure I mention in the video.
