thanks! hopefully I'll get it installed here soon... and try it out.

hey, I made a part 2 video showing this card working in a computer. it does really good, but the fan at 100% is really loud.
@richardsontm7 ай бұрын
FYI the GTX1080Ti has almost an identical VRAM layout as the P40 on the front side. It is a better fit than the GTX1080 reference cooler on the P40 PCB, as you don't have to use thicker thermal pads on those additional VRAM modules in the corners.

that's good info. I made a part 2 showing that the card works fine, if you want to to check it out. but the fan at 100% is loud.

Awesome work ! I am curious how it performs. Please let us know. If it works fine I will have to search for parts to install blowers this way to P40s (24 GB Vram

I works SO much better, I just uploaded the follow up video. It generated images in stable diffusion in seconds, not 6 minute, etc.

Could you please link the cable you have for the fan? I bought the same cards (GTX 1080/P40) and would like to mirror your setup.
@MaverickTangent27 күн бұрын
@michaeldisieno3465 just a 4 pin pc fan "extender" with a female on one side and a male on the other. I'm not posting any links.

I have a tesla K and the 980 heat sink bolted right on. Same situation though no fan power. Mine runs a 80mm standard case fan. We both think outside of the box 🤘

@@RobertFixit I did think about just sticking a 120 fan on it

@@MaverickTangent But if yours is like money the grills at the top are closed so only sideways air can go through But knowing its a standard 1080 pattern, any 970/1070 and up should fit as long as it doesnt hit the parts on the board I am definitely going to look for one of these cards.

have you tried adding more vram to a lower end card? A lot of this gen is artificially limited on vram to make ai inference require the more expensive cards - even though the slower ones would be capable.
@MaverickTangent9 ай бұрын
Waste of time. The cards with more ram are cheap and this was a low effort project. Maybe 30 min total. The amount of labor and tools required to add ram to a cheaper card isn't worth the effort. And you have to program a custom bios. Which I can't do. Not worth the effort for the surplus of cards out there. With the amount of money I have in this, I am only $50 away from an A2000, which is a better card in every way. As of 2024.

@@MaverickTangent I've seen vram mods out of china, seems pretty cost effective but good to hear your experience
@MaverickTangent9 ай бұрын
@vyax I just don't have the equipment to do the heating of the board, etc. And for me to buy that, I might as well just get one of the better cards. Unless I need like, 100? I'm actually shocked this 1080 cooler fit. It was just a hunch.

hi, do you have a model or a link for new heatsinker and fan for P40 on aliexpress or temu. My link was erased. thanks

Ok and where can i search the driver?

the only way to make this P40 card work in Windows is to install the nvidia cuda tool kit. see my part 2 video

Have you installed it? How it it holding up?
@MaverickTangent7 ай бұрын
@saxinat0r I haven't used it yet. I'm doing some things for work on my lab hardware and I haven't pulled it apart to set it up for AI yet... I'm just as curious as you. lol

I made a part 2 video, if you want to watch it. the fan is just hooked to 12v using a sata adapter so its loud but it does work if you install the nvida cuda toolkit. check out my part 2 video

@@MaverickTangent nice! Can't wait to watch it tonight. Thanks for the heads up
@MaverickTangent5 ай бұрын
@saxinat0r with the 4 pin fan hooked to a sata power plug, the fan runs 100% and it hits 54C under load. So I am gonna get a reostat to turn it down to maybe 70% fan speed. Target 70-80C under load and make it quieter
@saxinat0r5 ай бұрын
@@MaverickTangent have you found a way to automatically adjust fan speed based on the card's temperature?

I haven't run it. I got the power adapter cable and the fan extension should let me plug it into a PWM om the motherboard. Just need to pull my other card out. Been busy.
