Moments like this, his drunken humour & his eventual acceptance of Liara’s name & intellect are glimpses at the true Javik. He’s just burdened by layers of PTSD & survivor’s guilt, it’s easier for him to detach into high & mighty condescension than get close to people. I feel sorry for players who dismissed Javik as an asshole & didn’t bother talking to him.

I like how Javik changes tune during his speech. He likely originally intended to boost morale through pride or something. Like by being negative, he thought the "young" would be like "oh but we can do it. This won't be like your cycle" etc. With Shepard seeing what he's trying to do and telling him that's not gonna work, Javik switches to a more positive speech. I think it says something about his character development. I feel like if it was exactly the same Javik you see at the beginning, he'd probably be like "fuck that, I'm gonna tell them the harsh truth of this situation".

Okay but here's what I don't get. Javik says loads of times that he remembers Turians, Asari, Salarians and even Hanar. but....the Reapers were supposed to have wiped out all sentient life? Whatever about the Hanar, Javik for sure says he remembers Asari being attractive even in his day, which would mean there was some kind of interaction between their species, which would mean sentience...so....why / how did they survive to make it into *this* cycle.

from what i remember ,the reapers don't kill all the sentient life, just the races that are too advanced

At the time of the protheans, they were observing the other species, not directly interacting with them. So around Javiks prime all the other species were still either in the caveman stages, still in the early stages of physical development, Or at best beginnings of culture and civilization. To the reapers they were nothing so they left them alone. Reapers job is to eliminate the more technologically advanced species to allow the weaker species a chance to flourish. I'm assuming because if they tried without them the more primitive species would be wiped out by the more advanced ones. This is my thought tho so take it as opinion. Edit: spelling and grammar.

@@Firan25 Yeah you guys are right, it was only those sufficiently advanced enough that they wiped out. They just keep saying "all sentient life" so often, but I guess that makes sense since that's what they are

I think they only hit the species that use the Mass Effect tech they left behind. There's a mention in the game that the Reapers are bypassing the Yahg home world as they haven't advanced to that level of tech yet.

@@Firan25 well originally it was because the mass effect technology that these races develop actually speed up the collapse of the Universe and the reapers try to slow down that process by wiping all races with knowledge of mass effect fields, unfortunately that was scrapped and now the reapers are just dicks that wanna kill all organics
