One of the books I've read from author Tanya Huff discusses something similar to that issue. In the series the three main viewpoint species are similar enough to eat most of the same foods without getting sick but they also needed to consume individual nutritional supplement tablets for their specie or they would grow weaker and weaker from malnourishment. Now of course whether the amino acids make Tali and Garrus sick or mildly have indigestion I have no clue since I haven't actually played or read any of the mass effect media, but there is technically a workaround depending.

It would have looked very cool if they could animate the Citadel spinning, agreed, but you gotta remember ME1 was also a 2007 game...the scenery was already insane for that time, I'm not surprised animating all of it to rotate probably got cut. You gotta just imagine it maaaan.
@DraconDarkfire
@DraconDarkfire 3 жыл бұрын
[Out of game:] It seems unlikely to have been a technological limitation; they would just need to rotate the skybox, which should be very easy (with the exception of some ship cutscenes, maybe?). [In game:] It seems like they might be more likely to just use mass effect technology to produce artificial gravity much the same as on a ship; it's more or less "established" (at least indirectly) within the game to be relatively cheap to power, so it's possibly a lot simpler (and a better experience) than rotating the whole station (easier to dock, etc).

@MrWhygodwhy
@MrWhygodwhy 3 жыл бұрын
@@DraconDarkfire The lighting across the background and within the citadel would also now need to be dynamic with the sun and backgrounds which is not a simple change, and that's just one problem it would have off the top of my head. This was a game that barely held a stable framerate, had tons of visual glitches, and needed excessively long loading times in 2007. This was one year after TES Oblivion came out. Backgrounds this vast and detailed were still new, I am sure they were aware it should be spinning but probably did not add it as it was not worth the effort/hit to performance when the game was just barely performing as is and was already quite impressive looking for the time. It would become more standard to account for details like this 10 years later (in games like Prey 2017) when lighting engines were better and less prone to glitches. Also, as a general rule, If you ever find yourself thinking a change in game dev would be simple, it probably isn't. We can speculate but chances are, implementing a change like that is much harder and farther reaching than either of us are giving credit for.

The weapons in Mass Effect also use the scifi element of eezo to artificially reduce the mass of the projectile while in the field of the gun in order to impart more momentum and kinetic force than with just the railgun alone. Because it regains its natural mass once leaving the field without losing velocity.
@zotaninoron3548
@zotaninoron3548 9 ай бұрын
@@Bowlfrog44 The effect on the mass is a product of existing with the field. It changes to normal once leaving the field. As 'problematic' as it may be, that's the lore of the effect in game. They fire tiny grains of shaved metal whose mass is brought down to near nothing in order to make it easier to accelerate it to absurd speeds before leaving the mass effect field. Basically all the physics breaking effects of the series are based around the absurd properties of the "Mass Effect" of element zero. Like superluminal flight. The energy imparted by the rounds from mass effect weapons are intended to offer considerably more power at impact than the recoil imparted. Otherwise there is a practical limit to the power any weapon could possess based on the ability not to tear your arm off from firing a pistol.

the citadel is indeed spinning in some degree but there are lots of structures in mass effect that doesn't spin but everything inside it is still binded to the ground. there is no artificial gravity in mass effect. what they have is an element zero. its like a maglev. but in a more purer form that can be applied through anything. perhaps its a liquid or gas. all of their suits have magnetic mechanism that would bind them with any surface. everything there has that tech. even the crates. because if its just artificial gravity, then they would be floating or hopping while fighting in an open empty space on some planet or moon with low gravity. but they don't. they are clearly sticked to the surface. @18:16 is a good example.

Your explanation of the space elevator reminded me of the elevator from the remake of the movie Total Recall with Colin Farrel. In it there is an elevator that goes through the Earth's core between England and Australia that has to re-orient itself during transit because of the changes in gravity.

At the very beginning, regarding seeing the Citadel's Ward arms rotating through the glass: Shepard is *on* one of the Ward arms there. What we should see is the nebula - specifically the light source, the star Widow - shifting position as we rotate, not the arms.

@@blackoak4978 To be fair, Mass Effect was developed prior to 2007. Moving Widow around as viewed from the Ward-level windows would have been much more difficult and resource intensive to do than putting in a really pretty background like they did. Besides, given the size of the Citadel, it might be you'd have to stand at those windows for tens of minutes, maybe more than an hour, to see any shift in position. Not worth in time/money investment.

You should discuss that one quote from ME2 where the one officer on the citadel is addressing his troops and says that if a shot is missed out in space, it will eventually hit something, which is why they should always wait for a firing solution. I think he forgot about universal expansion and just how vast the universe is.

I always thought it was more like muzzle control on a range. Chances are that you'll be fighting near planets most of the time and you might not always have space as a backdrop on your target. If you fire while facing earth and you don't hit your target, you hit earth. Accident avoidance.
