What a wonderful little video. This brings back so many memories for me. I lived in Buxton for the first 44 years of my life, and worked as a Guard - later Conductor - at Buxton from 1973 to 1999, working on this line between 1979 and 1999, at which time I left the railways to pursue a different career in the Church of England. I feel sure that if you travelled this line during the years 1979 to 1999, then you would almost certainly have seen me then too, or you would have heard me as I used to whistle rather a lot as I worked.

I certainly did travel on the Buxton line, in that period - daily from 1971 to 1985 and frequently since - and yes I do recall the whistling guard! Thanks for writing, glad you like the video.

Well-shot, informative video. I used the line last week for jumping-off points for walking. Great to see it's still double-track, most of the old station buildings still in situ and semaphores still rule. (If it ain't broke don't fix it.) This line should be actively advertised for tourists!
