NXR 2 | Shoei's safest helmet yet?

I can attest, this is one seriously good helmet. It may look fairly bland compared to some lids, but it's spectacularly well made, super quiet, extremely aerodynamic and hopefully about as safe as you can get. Remember that advert when they closed car doors, and the one with the satisfying, quality clunk was a volkswagon? This is the helmet version of that. Yep, it's the volkswagon door of helmets and I love it.

Photochromatic visor is so goooood! I have the NXR and love it. One thing I like...not so much, is the opening thingy placed on the side. Which they changed on the No2 version. Good! 100g more in weight? Bugger! Ventilation? The one at the rear makes no different at all. I can't tell whether it's open or closed. So these new ones seems to be better. Thank you!

I’ve always had a shoie lid. I use a neotec with the sliding darkened inner visor and it is a godsend. I ride virtually all the time with the clear visor up and it is comfy. I dropped my bike at low speed in Leeds and I rolled down the road ending up hitting the kerb with my head, all the time listening to my iPod which at the time was playing “it’s just a perfect day”

@@UrbanRiderlondon Thankyou for your kind reply, it was 4 years ago, a month after my heart attack, which was somewhat interesting and the best thing that ever happened to me. I hurt my right shoulder and ankle. The bike was virtually unharmed thank god.

The original nxr whilst noisy was a brilliant helmet, if I could have got it again I would as this helmet saved my life in a horrific accident on the m25 , that took me 4 years to learn to walk again from but to me the new one feels a little cheaper on the inside I’m not sure if it was this helmet as they didn’t have another large in stock, so ended up getting the original gt air as it felt the same but had a sun visor, honestly a good pair of glasses worked better it’s why I didn’t get the mk 2 a year later I would say try before you buy somewhere as you may have second thoughts

Been using Shoei helmets for at least 20 years, doing upward of 25000 miles a year on business. All brilliant in all weathers until the X-Spirit which leaks when it pours! Anyone had experience with the NXR 2 in the rain?

My Shoei NXR never fit me perfectly, I still get headaches sometimes after a few hours of riding but that photochromic visor is something I really don't want to give up. Arai helmets are almost non-existent on the market here but I'll be searching to find and test some, might be better suited for my weird (wider in the rear) head.

I own the Quantic and my sister got the NXR2, and honestly, after having both on I can say that the Arai feels much more premium, from the inside padding and feel, the visor latch, ease of putting on and getting off, NXR2 is realy narrow and overall finish, yes the Shoei is lighter, but for me personaly when looking at them, and having them in my hands the Shoei feels like a budget helmet.

Nxr2 and rf1400 is the same model , Europe and America use different names though. It has like a minor difference but it should be the same.

I’m not sure I follow entirely. Arai’s come in intermediate ovals too. I take it this is just particularly competitive with the quantic for some reason? What’s the category/class? You mentioned “it’s class” but didn’t really give any detail on what class that was. Thanks for any additional info. I’ll check the description for both too but more interested if you’ve personally found it slots in a particularly segment or something or if I’m reading too far into your statement. Were you just saying that even arai’s intermediate ovals aren’t as “intermediate oval-y” as shoei’s? I figured that’s what you were saying but given the Arai is a round shape helmet I just am not sure. Thanks again for clarifying.

The Arai Quantic and Shoei NXR 2 have both arrived with us around the same time and are the first 2 that we stock with the new ECE 22-06 safety rating so they compare well. They are both listed as intermediate oval fits but we've found Shoei to air more on the oval side of that spectrum and Arai to air more on the round side.

I might be late to the party, but I'm currently running it now. You can fit it however the side unit doesn't quite slide in all the way, but holds. You'll also need to bend the short battery clamp to follow the curve of the back of the helmet. So it can work but there are some mods and compromises you'll need to make. I'm personally going for the new Packtalk Edge just cause I don't see myself going to any other helmet besides the NXR and the edge fits any helmet

So you would definitely say to purchase the transitions visor? It is 199€here! But I wanted to make sure it was worth the money. The reviews on KZbin are mixed.

​@@superstarsfastcars yeah the price is high but my next helmet is def. going to have transitions visor. Pinlock is the same so you should be good to go. I paid a bit less than your pice, closer to 170 euro. I also got it hit once with rock from under truck wheel and it has very little scratch but didn't crack - so I'm sure it's same quality as normal visor.

I have the qwest and I love it, but it is now old and a bit tore apart. The NXR2 looks too simple and a bit lame, and if there was a chance I was buying it it's gone due to the tab being at the middle...like seriously... wtf

I think Shoei has made a big mistake with the new model, central visor opening. Alot of people including myself couldn't purchase this helmet because of chin mounted action cams, which is now and increasingly very popular, get in the way of the opening tab. I may get an arai for the first time now 😞

Eh, I wouldn't recommend chin mounted gopros, had a car T bone me and my jaw got broken due to the camera being hit and retracting into the helmet striking my jay

Suggestion, as my last comment. Please make the helmet shape a prominent bullet point. Maybe include it in the text specs or description at least. Not buried in the marketing paragraphs like it is for the Arai quantic at least.

Its the worst helmet ever!! They put hard shell on the side so it hurte like..... to put off. Bought and return... shoei do your homework
