What a storm this was! A true blizzard in every sense of the word. It all started about a week ago when several of the forecast models began showing a coastal storm developing Christmas weekend, they pretty much nailed that dead on, but what they didn't nail right off the bat was the exact track. Not uncommon at all really since it's extremely difficult to forecast that a week out, or even 3 days out for that matter. The forecast models bounced back and forth over the past few days between a track further off shore, and a track up the coast. About 36 hours out was when they started converging on a solution and that solution was for a track about 100 miles off shore which puts us here in NYC right in line with receiving some big time snows. But what's more, this storm also brought with it some extremely strong winds too! Again, a true blizzard in every sense!
I spent the afternoon and evening documenting the storm at it's height in Manhattan, and at one point we even experienced "thundersnow". Something that only happens in the most intense nor'easters. I captured a flash of lightning followed by the thunder so be on the lookout for that during the video!
Hope you enjoy! Thanks for watching!
