I can understand why Chinatown would be so popular on Christmas Day. I think the family in the movie A Christmas Story went to a Chinese restaurant when their Christmas dinner was ruined. Hope you had a great holiday.

East Broadway used to be one of the busiest parts of Chinatown. This is back in the 80’s and 90’s when more Chinese people were living in a Chinatown. The energy is gone as Chinatown has been gentrified. Only the more touristic areas are seeing busy foot traffic. It’s a shame.

Did not realize Chinatown was so big, or at least it seems. Funny to see a Popeyes Chicken with Chinese handwriting. Have been to Wo Hop, but 456 New Shanghai, Hey Hey Roasters, and on Bayard St off Mott the Mei Lai Wah pork bun bakery and Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, and then Tasty Hand Pulled Noodles and shaved ice at Taiwan Pork Chop House and Nam Wah Tea Parlor, as well as Wok Wok and Taste of Joy, Hwa Yuan Szechwan, Wah Fung, will have to check them out when I'm in the area! Have you been to the Chubby Crab next to Wah Fung?

Don't go 456 New Shanghai on Mott. was there more than a year ago / not good at all at least not like old days. I know cause I'm Shanghainese. hard to find good ones / actually Philadelphia Chinatown has much better Shanghai food.

Back in the early 80's - I use to go Mai Lai Wah for roast pork bun / coffee 3-4 times a week. no or very small lines but Alway's busy & old man owner was nice to me. these day's you don't need to be good or hole in the wall. just social media can be a million-dollar hit! I try it last year / was pretty good but nowhere like it used to be. lines create artificial urgency to try but can't blame these people if you are visiting. workers are snob nose now since they are famous now but that's being a human being & how people are.

Heard of it from a few Jewish friends. Otherwise, they have nothing else to eat for Christmas and New Year days...as the rest are closed to celebrate the important festivals.

I did a month of jury service this summer near by…on centre street..wow my lunches were great and would bring home so much food for dinner from a different place all month …family wants me to somehow sign up for jury duty again! 😂
