No offense but if you don't get chills after listening to this something is wrong. We all remember what happened on 9/11 and how many innocent people were killed. The patriotism after that was amazing, we should have that same fever for our country every single day..!!! My husband was in the military for 32 yrs, he passed away Feb 17th and when they folded that flag and handed it to me I was so proud.....God bless the USA...!

The song was written in late 2001, and was inspired by Toby's father's death in March 2001, as well as the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States later that year. It was released in May 2002 as the lead single from the album, Unleashed. The song topped the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart and reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming his biggest solo hit on that chart. Toby at first didn't want to release this song as a single but Commandant of the Marine Corps James L. Jones told Toby it was his duty as an American citizen to record the song. "It's your job as an entertainer to lift the morale of the troops," Jones said to Keith. "If you want to serve, that is what you can do."

My dad served in the army. Then later, he served 17 years in the national guard until they forced him to retire when he couldnt pass his physical any longer. It was a heartbreaking day for him. He loved this country and instilled that into me and my brothers. I'm 55 years old and I would help defend this country if I was called upon. This is still the best deal there is. I dont want to be anywhere else.

Osama Yo Mama -- Ray Stevens Have You Forgotten -- Darryl Worley Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning -- Alan Jackson These are all very patriotic, were inspired by 9/11 but for me generate very different emotions and would make good reaction videos anytime you are looking for a patriotic song.

Lysi is right. Today, many Americans cringe when they hear overtly patriotic songs. (That wasn't the case twenty years ago, but it is today.) Something to think about: Most people who cringe at patriotic songs are not willing to serve in the military, or become police officers. Both the military and the police are having more trouble recruiting every year. It seems inevitable that they'll eventually reach the point of having too few personnel to carry out their missions. What happens then?

They were the last plane in the air on 9/11 and had figured out the terrorists were using their plane to take out our Capitol. A select group of heroes didn’t sit in their seats cowering in fear and “hoping” someone would do something. They made a plan and took action. God Bless every one of them; they went down as heroes in that Pennsylvania field.

My little brother was in the Navy and he was in the Pentagon when the airplane crashed into it he was on the opposite side he said the whole building shook smoke and fire was everywhere and nobody knew what to do that building was supposed to take an attack from a airplane and he said it sure didn't seem like it did the way it shook

I have a LOT of legitimate criticisms of the American military industrial complex and the awful things our government has done to other countries in the name of “patriotism” or whatever, BUT this song came out just before my dad was deployed so I have a very emotional connection to it. It’s important to remember that “I support the troops and I want them to come home safe and supported” and “I don’t agree with the US government getting into this war” are statements that can coexist!! It’s not like our troops get much of a say as to where they’re deployed.
