When burnt, wood is carbon neutral meaning it releases only as much Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere as it absorbed from the atmosphere whilst growing. Not only that, but wood left to decompose on the forest floor gives off the same amount of Carbon Dioxide as burning it does. So burning wood from sustainable sources really is the best way for the environment.

I used to own a house with a pizza oven in clay, and it only burned wood. I loved the ease and taste of those pizzas. I don’t remember how hot it got, but a full chicken cooked in 9 minutes.

I have an objection to what Robby said about the quality of the pizzas, and that is to remember unleaded gasoline. One of the major reasons we had the malaise period in American cars, in the mid to late 70s, is because leaded gasoline was phased out. Lead is used in gasoline as a knock inhibitor, and cars that don't have lead in their gasoline can't produce nearly as much power. So the performance quality of cars was severely affected. But the health benefits of not breathing lead in the air we inhale is completely worth that trade off.

Here in the UK I owned a small eatery, made thousands of pizzas with a commercial electric oven, not bad, but nowhere near as good as a wood oven, and then in a electric oven if something is spilled there is the danger of fire, not to mention the smell of whatever was burning, it happened to me a couple of times. In a wood oven the pizza is cooked to perfection in about 2 minutes in an electric oven cooked to imperfection in 6 minutes, I retired after 24 years. It would appear that your mayor having no idea how to solve the more serious problem has decided to jump on the band wagon of the environment, to go after easy targets
