Depends on who is being targeted and why. The KKK and Nazis, as well as other hate groups, traditionally use paint on doors and buildings to mark those they consider part of “the other” as a signal to everyone around to shun, attack, or kill the people who live or work there. Growing up in the South I assure you the black families that had to flee white areas in terror over having their homes spray painted with KKK death threats absolutely were the victims of hate crimes even if you support weaponized graffiti because people you agree with are currently using it against people you dislike. Criminalizing acts of fascism, which graffiti like this is used for, is not an act of fascism. If they are targeting Jews indiscriminately then it is a hate crime. If they are targeting people based on politics like supporting Israel using criminal vandalism then it’s terrorism. And it’s an indefensible act of fascism and corruption to arrest a reporter documenting the events.
