Bridges and tunnel are high use infrastructures that need an incredible amount of upkeep. Taxes cover only a portion of the bill, and even people who don’t drive pay those taxes, because our goods are shipped using those roads. It’s the same rationale behind the subway and bus fare. No one is stopping you from obscuring a plate number/letter. If you are registered, have insurance and valid drivers license; and they decide to pull you over for obscured plate the max fine is $300, but if you travel these bridges very often the $300 ticket might be an investment (lol), since the tolls add up >$300 very quickly. Again, unlikely to get pulled over because as the video said 9000+ people do it daily and only a few will get pulled over in a day, and even FEWER will actually get towed/arrested because those are the ones without valid license, registration, insurance, and fake plates. Make sure to have all prior toll balance cleared, and have no pending tickets/fines. So they can't tow your car for prior balance if you do get pulled over for obscured plate when toll evading.

This is a problem that has been around for a couple of years now. The only reason the city cares about this now is because they are losing toll revenue. Mta/ ezpass is greedy as hell. They would change a $50 surcharge on a toll for $3. They got rid of the booth clerk so you have to pay the charge. I don’t blame people for not paying its ridiculous

this is how to discourage 'ghost cars' have a crew of officers drive different highways to look for these violations. have a few tow trucks with them. I ride the grand central parkway often and i'll see rear plates completely worn away but when I get to the front of the vehicle the front plate is cleaner than a preachers sheets. On a short ride at least 10 can be seen with obstructed plates. It's not only to avoid tolls alot are not in dmv ,no driver license, no insurance time for towing and if no fine is paid no car.
