The artwork looks brilliant dude! The inexpensive $2 brushes are holding you back. They’re really basic, and you’ll be fighting to make a precise straight line, or evenly saturated paint coverage. Hit up a Blick’s Art store and pick up some acrylic specific brushes. Spend a little $, keep them clean, and you’ll be able to use them over and over. Keep doing what you do!

Another helpful tip is gesso-ing your canvas this is just covering the whole canvas in a base layer of white. This will reduced cracking of the paint later on and also help get a cleaner coverage of paint. Also yes thinning you’re acrylic paint with a bit of water hugely helps the coverage of the paint. Doing these two things will eliminate any annoying white spots of canvas that the paint didn’t cover. Hope this helps!

A little advice when you're using that copic marker at 7:53. If you can avoid going right to left if your right handed. Because of the way you hold the marker you will end up pushing the marker along instead of sliding. This means a greater chance for errors, and can do that dotty feeling as the marker continuously catches and slips on the canvas. The piece came out awesome though and I always love watching people try new creative media.

I'm not a good skater but I'm a decent artist with a bit of experience. So here's a few tips for teaching me how to skate :) - The pieces of brushes are usually a result of low quality brush . Find a good brush at an art store and problem solved. (Ur using acrylic so remember soft brushes, hard ones are for oil) - Use a pencil to make a sketch (yeah pretty simple tip but just in case) some artist have different opinions on pencils on canvas so I've seen artists using white paint. - If u want to water down paint, I recommend gouche. It's a mix between watercolor and acrylic. You can make so many effects with gouche.

what your're looking for (other than water) is actually, something like "Angelus 2-Thin" which will thin the paint and make brush strokes less apparent. POSCA paint pen is probably not the best medium because it is water based, meaning if it gets wet, it will come off. :)

Dear John, I have questions. Did you prime your canvas first? I use white acrylic for an acrylic paint there is also gesso to prime your canvas with. Also , painters tape. leave it down when you paint and use it to mask all the areas you want to remain white. Just a couple ideas to help.

The Brush Problem is probably due to a 'low quality' also I don't know if you did or not but if not: Prime your canvas! Paint it with white and then sand it down with some sandpaper. Makes making straight lines alot easier :) Great to see how good you are getting with drawing and painting

a tip on spray paint is to go to your local graffiti store and buy graffiti cans like montana/molotow also buy caps that will make fatter tinner lines depending on which one you have

When free handing drawing a short to medium sized line, take off the marker when u get the the corner, then go to the next corner and draw back towards the original line. When using Spray paint don't shake the can over the same spot unless u want a slightly drippy look (can also create an uneven looking surface). Finally, all the thick black lines on the canvas i personally would just use a piece of chalk or a builders pencil to mark out and then use a black marker or spray paint to give it the edge once you have done the main piece. These are all my personal things and it may be different for anyone else. Got anything else to say or ant yips for me just reply and tell me.

hey John, red acrylic is notoriously hard to paint with. If you use a little bit of dish soap in your water it will help with the coverage for your red paint for future reference. If you struggle using a paintbrush maybe look into getting a paint dabber. You can find them on graff-city.com, hope this help with your future art Adventure. Keep it up loving the videos man

I think acrylic isn’t made to be mixed with water, it makes it a little transparent and doesn’t really go with the medium, gouache and watercolor mix well with water though, and the paint brushes might not be great quality/ the best kind for precision, still looks very cool !

With spray cans there are alot of different caps for different purposes and there are also different brands/cans for different pressure. An experienced artist can get what they want out of most cans but for a beginner i'd suggest getting the right cap/can combo.

Spend a little more money on a better brush a good house painting brush like a Purdy is worth it’s weight in gold but not horribly expensive. Also try clear acrylic medium to thin the paint you can do matte finish clear and will really be good with blacks and red because lack of reflection will make colors deeper.

Stiffer boars hair brush is good on fresh canvas floppy cheap brush sheds and makes you work hard but synthetic brush is good also and will last if you if take care of it.
