I really liked the communication and rapport when you spoke to LAG tower, I think( or the airspace previous) when you were looking to cross Manhattan east bound and he asked in a straight forward manner, “ what do you want to do?”
@FlyWithBruno4 жыл бұрын
Yep! As a best practice, I always give them a curtesy call before stating intentions... Especially if there's a lot I need to say. Some controllers prefer that pilots state intentions right away, but I prefer to err on the side of caution and give them a chance to establish communication ("84-Uniform, go ahead") before I spill out whatever it is that I want to request.
@flamingoaviation4 жыл бұрын
@@FlyWithBruno I started with the courtesy call this year as airports operations became more complex. Airline operations were up to 31arrivals/31 departures per day and the local flight school is (was) training precovid about 200 mostly Chinese students in about 30 aircraft. Giving tower and ground the whole enchilada on initial call up was too much. So the tower basically re-educated all the locals and established the courtesy call. Works much better, more efficient even though it doubles the number of transmissions.

91.119 (c) Over other than congested areas. An altitude of 500 feet above the surface, except over open water or sparsely populated areas. In those cases, the aircraft may not be operated closer than 500 feet to any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure. i.e. u can fly over water under 500ft as long as u keep a distance of 500 ft from any person or structure.
@FlyWithBruno3 ай бұрын
Ever read the rules of the Hudson River SFRA? Aircraft have to fly at 1300ft or lower. I was at 700ft, still above the 500ft of 91.119 👍🏻

The only bad thing about this video is... that it has an end:) Is there any possibility to fly this route when you‘ve made your licence in Germany?
@FlyWithBruno4 жыл бұрын
Danke buddy! Thanks for the feedback and support :) I'm pretty sure you can fly that route with an European license, but I'd double-check that with the FAA.
@NealHill04 жыл бұрын
@@FlyWithBruno I think if it's an ICAO approved certificate, there shouldn't be any problem (although, post 9-11, there might be some kind of review and lots of paperwork required, I think it's called covalidation). It probably takes time to be processed.

I want to do this route, however, I'm extremely afraid of messing up or something...did you do the route your first time by yourself? I wanted to take my mom on the flight, however, I've never flown in class B airspace before. and tips?
@FlyWithBruno3 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy! I hear you, and I had the same concerns before doing it by myself for the first time. Like in most things in Aviation, this is much like learning to swim: one day you need to jump in the pool and do it. As long as you're focused and know what to expect, you'll be just fine! And you'll come back with much more confidence. I've done this route almost 10x by now, and I learn something new every time. Since you've never done it, I'd recommend flying that route with someone that has experience in it, or with a CFI. Have fun buddy, and fly safe!
@ParadigmUnkn0wn2 жыл бұрын
For starters, don't take advice from this guy. Nothing about the corridor lets you fly below 500' AGL, and you're not actually talking to ATC if you're flying in the VFR corridor, it's more like a CTAF freq. where you make mandatory position callouts and listen to other pilots. ATC isn't involved in the VFR corridor, and unless you're landing a helicopter or seaplane, you should stay above 1,000' and below 1,300'. The "Skyline Route" IS inside the Class B and *does require ATC coordination.* Those two things are often confused. Hudson River VFR Corridor: 1,000' - 1,300' - No ATC approval, not class B Skyline Route: typically 1,500' or higher - ATC coordinated transit through the Class B Except for landing or in event of an emergency, there's no exception to the 500' rule. This is just bad advice at every step.

Sad to think that the *Twins towers* no longer exist and its sad to fly and see nothing but 2 fountains or if they allow you now cause before 9/11 attack you could fly near!
