The "middle" class is shrinking not because people below them are getting more, quite the opposite. The people on the bottom are getting less also, it's the people on top that win. Just look at the stock market over the past few years as people were struggling to afford housing and groceries. I get your point and it's an understandable way of going about it. However - like it or not - these are your people. What they do, and vote for is your problem by proxy. These people will spill out of NYC and bring all their bullshit with them. There's only so much land in the US. They'll be coming to your doorstep sooner than you think. Then there's also the echo chamber effect; in which ideals and political views that are more propagated without contention are more easily accepted by people who otherwise wouldn't go along with it, and thus become more widespread - once again, affecting you.
