So important that you chronicle this type of stuff. I worked for Metropolitan Music Company “goofering “ for violin makers( getting coffee and sweeping and learning) I’d run over to Matty Umanovs guitar store and show him my lastest attempt at a musical instrument! Never forget it; There’s not a straight line anywhere! Back to the woods shop. On my way home , I would passCBGB’s and The Mudd Club. Let people know the rich history before it disappears. I think Mandolin Brothers on Staten Island closed. Every rock star shopped there! The record guy does know a lot of stars

Jamal is the man! I used to go to Bleeker bobs, Rebel Rebel & Village Music all in one spree day. I miss those walks, but this video reminds me to get back out there
@JamesandKarla3 жыл бұрын
Yes Jamal is so knowledgeable and a kind person. Hitting all those three places in one day must have been lethal on your wallet. We have visited and photographed both Rebel Rebel and Bleecker Bobs and miss them.

Ok, it´s official! I need you to tell Jamal I love him! I feel so related to him and his passion and enthusiasm. He exudes that humble attitude I love in real vinyl collectors (I don´t like those 'I know everything' attitude of other record store owners). We have to help our local record stores! THESE KIND OF PLACES JUST CAN´T (SHOULDN´T) DISAPPEAR! We can´t lose people like Jamal. We´ll be dumber, less passionate, intellectually weaker if these kind of places just fade away. If you don´t have a turntable, get one (there are really inexpensive models you can start with...even for poor people like us in Argentina). Once you put the needle on the record something just changes inside of you...it´s like a calling. You get more curious, you want to learn more about music, artists, culture, places, historic moments. And, if your are lucky enough, you can get to know people like Jamal (or Kristian from Limited to One, or the guys from A1 or Academy Records, Human Head or Blue Sun in Brooklyn). You can plan your next trip like me: looking for record stores to visit in a city you don´t know. Cause as soon as you enter a Record Store you are surrounded by people just like you and if you are a nice person you´ll know nice people wherever you are. So, thanks James, Karla, @Urbanist, Hudson (of course) for showing this part of the New York I love and treasure. Tell Jamal that, as soon as Mr. Covid lets me travel, I´ll be the first in line to get some good stuff from his store and to tell him 'thank you' for what he´s doing. Stay safe, healthy, strong and put some vinyl on, just to the tell the world we are spinning too...no matter what! Greetings and love from Argentina!

We knew you would enjoy this video and had hoped it was also one of the places you had visited in 2019. Jamal certainly is both very knowledgeable about music and vinyl and is also a wonderful person who really cares about his store and it’s relationship to the community of Greenwich Village. Thank you so much for watching and commenting as always and looking forward to a brighter 2021 and hopefully a not so distant future that you can return to visit our beloved city.

@@JamesandKarla I missed Jamal´s sotre! I had it on my list but we didn´t have the time to go. I´ll be ther next time, you can be sure (I put my eye on some of his stuff...I had to freeze the image to see his collection better and I´m shocked, I can´t believe what he has in that tiny office). I hope you can join us then, it´ll be a wonderful time to share with friends like you. Pizza is on us! (Did you hear that, Hudson?).

Oh goodness! You’re still there. I bought the copy of the White Album called The Black Album years ago. I mean I stold it. Not literally but it’s quite the conversation piece today. Later it was marketed as “the lost tapes “, I think. My brother and I spent hours rummaging for rare discs for his dj business
