Came across this video as I just got a Surface and Staffpad. Thanks for the clear instructions, I was having issues with it recognising how I barred my notes and this showed me a simple way that works every time! I know it's a few years old now, but still appreciative of this, so thank you!

Thanks for the detailed description. I watched your video, got inspired and bought the staffpad app for my iPad. But as soon as I started work, I immediately met two problems. And now I really hope that you can help me.. 1. Please tell me how I can move the cello position above the piano in the score. Now I am writing an arrangement for saxophone, cello and piano. I faced such a problem when the saxophone was placed on the first line, the piano was placed on the second and third line, and only the cello is on the fourth line. But how to move the cello position to the position as in a chamber ensemble - above the piano? 2. How can I go to the layout of individual parts from the score and get a pdf of the parts? Pleeeeeas help me..

Thanks for the video Philip! What are your thoughts on the new Surface 3 (the model with 4GB ram, 128 GB) when using this app? With the specs they've released about the new Surface 3, do you think it would work as well as the Surface Pro 3?
@nycmusicservices9 жыл бұрын
Josh Wright The developers have said the best experience is with Surface Pro 3 although any Windows 8.1 device with active pen and touch support should work just fine.
@lolSpiderPiglol9 жыл бұрын
I think the developers have said that because the Surface 3 didn't exist until recently. I believe the only thing that the Pro3 has over the Surface 3, besides better performance, is the screen size. Those extra 2" inches really make a difference when writing music.

Thanks for the video! I just bought staff pad and like it. Do you happen to know if two staves, say for two classical guitars, can have system bar lines, bar lines that extend between staves? For the life of me I can't find any way to control the bar line set up. I'm wondering if there's a hidden command. Thanks so much, and thanks for the videos. Best, Walter.

Could you leave it in hand written note format? Meaning I might want to save my own hand drawn notation on the score result and not convert it to the digital note process?

Thanks for the review, NYC Music Services! It looks amazing! Do you think if it's possible to write contemporary music on it? How about creating (or importing) special symbols? thanks!
@nycmusicservices9 жыл бұрын
Patricia De Carli You can draw pretty much anything you like. StaffPad will only render and play back conventional notation, but it will keep any custom ink strokes that you care to remain in your score.

This is great, although for some reason, when I try this it on my staffpad (which I just purchased for iPad Pro) the app does not recognise my handwriting, which while not quite as neat as yours, seems close. If I may ask, is there something I'm not doing? Is my iPad too old ? It's so unworkable like this...

Hello, i have a question: does it work for contemporary music, with not traditional notation and/or with special stuff (analogical notatios, lines, graphics, etc)?

I'm getting ready to apply to some doctorate programs for composition and need to invest in a new portable device for lessons, as my laptop has seen much better days. I've been really wanting to try StaffPad also and a surface seems like the best device for using it. But I am really wondering how StaffPad does in moving the files to other notation programs like Finale or Dorico, I quite enjoy writing by hand more as I find it more free and I've come to prefer the newer program Dorico in general though I have to use a midi input or my mouse. I'm also curious how it does moving midis to programs like Ableton or midi files from something like that to StaffPad, I assume that part works like any of them. But I know that often moving a file from Finale to another notation software results in some irritating errors and then more editing time.
@FreakieFan4 жыл бұрын
You can export the staffpad files to MIDI or musicXML and load those into a notation software of choice. The other way around works as well, since StaffPad can read MIDI en XML files too.

Aleš Ogrin See the full review (www.sibeliusblog.com/news/staffpad-is-a-music-handwriting-app/). No planned support for iPad. The article notes (get it?) that the Surface Pro 3 has hardware advantages in pen and display that made that platform suitable to this software.

Great but my Apple Pencil (2nd generation) doesn’t work like that. I have to be extremely accurate with my entries (very straight lines, no gaps or mistakes, etc) or the entries are in error. Takes a lot of time. Wish my pencil worked like you’re.

I saw your videos and actually I have Staff pad, I have to say that is not easy to use. I am a music teacher and I bought it thinking that would be fast but actually is not. Very sad for my investment, I wish the creators have developed more the product before launching it. Good ideas but it is still a slow process.

Man, that's slow and I think there's much more strain for eyes, because you have to watch the screen every single moment and have to be precise with the pen. On the contrary in my Sibelius on PC I can type notes from the keyboard even without watching monitor, and I don't have to be precise. And I definitely do it faster, than on the video. I prefer keyboard and mouse/touchpad. So, personally I don't like that handwriting idea.
