I just mean that if we compare classical with modern music, Baroque and Rock even Jazz have, in my opinion, same feelings (texture, technique and so on). For example, Clasicism would be more like pop music. Many friends of mine in Spain who play this kind of music, have told me the same.

+Jay Preis pretentiousness will get you nowhere fast
@soupcomfreak8 жыл бұрын
Jay Preis But what is pretentious is implying that your views are superior to the views of others. Which, considering the popularity of the genre you insulted, seems to be fairly accurate. TBH, I can see why you could feel this way about Hip-Hop, not being a fan of it myself, but the fact that it has such a following means that it accomplishes the goal of music for someone. And as such, I wouldn't consider it a lesser form of music.
@soupcomfreak8 жыл бұрын
Jay Preis I would disagree with that. Music is a construct of humanity, by and for it. The goal being to convey feelings, whatever they may be. In my opinion, the beauty of music is directly related to it's effectiveness.

@@nycpmusic I've actually wanted to play this piece on a 5Bass down 2 Octaves from what's written in the Solo Violin part. A 5Bass is essentially a 5 String Double Bass tuned in 5ths like a 5 String Violin but 2 Octaves lower. The New Violin Family has 4 new members, so between the Violas and Cellos are the Tenor Violins (tuned an Octave below a standard Violin), above the standard Violin are 2 new types of Violins the Soprano Violin (Tuned an Octave above a Viola), & my favorite the Treble Violin which is tuned an Octave higher than a Standard Violin, to maintain the new Balance between the Cellos & Basses (tuned an Octave below the Cello nowadays to have better intonation) is a Small Bass (Tuned 2 Octaves below the Violin). There's now a 5th New member called Sub-Contrabass which is tuned like a Violin but 3 Octaves lower.

I really like the stressful feeling of the piece though. At least the third movement.
@XitlalicProductions5 жыл бұрын
I totally hear what you’re saying but to me it’s more of the reverse. In the beginning the soloist is following the ensemble very well in my opinion. After the intro section the diverge a bit and he begins to hang on notes slightly longer than I feel is necessary, creating that tug between him and the ensemble. Not necessarily a bad thing but it is noticed.

I can't BELIEVE this chap needs the sheet music, looking down on it, 5 pages sellotaped together to avoid turns!!?? BACH???!!! As a student I spent 4 years busking in London's West End arcades: I soon had all 6 solo sonatas by heart (including the Chaconne), plus the 2 concerti. Not only did I finance my studies, I bought a house a year! I gradually added the 6 solo 'cello sonatas, on the viola. Try it: it's not hard!!! In later life, as a College Professor, I got my students to stand in a semicircle, playing from memory, interacting visually with each other. It was not a success: they ALL rapidly got positions in professional orchestras, and of course, new recruits weren't familiar with our repertoire. Still, we had notable performances and some memorable T/V appearances. And ENORMOUS fun!!!

@UCQvgvyddQ1f-MJTQbXWvcUg I notice that the Bassist is using the same fingerings as the Cello cause he has the Bass tuned in Fifths via Fifths tuning Bass Strings. Fifths tuning is intended to broaden the range of your Bass and treat it like the rest of the string family.

Same here! It's been 9 years since I played it.... I performed it at a recital at the age of 17 but then went away to college and got busy with school/life and now at 26, I feel like I've lost a lot of it.... I'm kind of discouraged at the moment but hopefully with practice I'll get it back. Helps that I have so many markings and fingerings in my score from back when I was in my prime.

New York classical players, it would make sense to have the Double Bass tuned in Fifths (an octave below the Cello, and for 5 String Double Basses add a High E String) cause it'll extend the range and also allow the bassist to use the same fingerings as the Cello.
@RockStarOscarStern6344 жыл бұрын
Fifths tuning for Double Bass is gaining popularity so much, that with a 5 string 5ths tuned Bass, I could arrange this Concerto for Double Bass w/o having to write it down on paper cause in the Solo Violin part, it'll sound 2 Octaves lower than written.
