Another outstanding video Devin. Fantastic to watch you walk us through your approach so thoroughly and reinforce the strategies you have introduced previously. Amazing how many fish you took from this single, small pool. Big messages are ”stay low, take your time fish all the water with precision”. Great to be able to actually see the behaviour of your sighted on this one btw.

Glad you enjoyed it and you are right about those take-home messages. Getting the sighter to show up for the camera is a lot more challenging than most people would think. The lighting, elevation, and water surface color have to be nearly perfect and it's simply not achievable in a lot of instances with a micro leader. I have another video in the works specifically about sighter takes though that I'll be editing down the line.

I find on highly pressured water that a single fly is very beneficial. One fly benefit is you can fish all water types depth wise. I always enjoy your content , thanks!!!

2 things I’ll point out: you kept a low profile, and you casted (mostly) upstream. I have a bad habit of standing too much and fishing at 45 degrees to 90 degrees. Both will get you beat on the water. Outstanding video!

Beautiful spot, Devin! It's remarkable how many fish you can pull out without them getting spooked by all the jumping and splashing! So nice of you to share the knowledge and to let us share the fun!
@tacticalflyfisher38174 күн бұрын
Thanks. In my experience, fish are often less spooked by the fighting of other fish than we often think they are. It's our presence that ends up spooking them, so I try to be as careful about my positioning as possible.

Thanks for the video Devin, I was wondering why you use 5' of indicator mono for your leader set up. Thanks very much
@tacticalflyfisher38173 күн бұрын
Please check the diagram again. I use 15 feet of sighter as my full micro leader and then add tippet to it. I've talked about this in other videos but having one continuous section for my leader is simple and much stronger than if it is broken up with extra leader knots in relatively small material.

Great video as always. I really like that you show the leader formula with the video. Also that you name the flies that you use. It helps me to establish my own set of confidence flies. A question: when tying the light bright, does it matter if you use a slotted bead vs the inverting bead? Is it a matter of having more clearance for the hook point? Thanks.
@tacticalflyfisher38175 күн бұрын
The reason I used the inverting bead is that it is around 10-15% heavier than the similar slotted bead size would be. If you look through the product descriptions of both bead types in our shop, you'll see the listed weights for each size. By using both types of beads in my fly boxes, I am able to get smaller jumps in weight when I want to go heavier or lighter. If I only used slotted beads or inverting beads, then the weight jump, and corresponding sink rate change, from one size to the next can be bigger than I want.

Hi Devin, thanks for all the great videos and books. I’m a very big fan and my catch rate today without you and Lance. I use to fish only two flies but after trial and error (ie many lost flies) I now use a single fly in conditions you have just described. One question, I recently heard that the distance between the dropper and point fly of about 24” is set by competition rules, is this true? Is there any value to reducing that distance to say 12” to 15” ? It would reduce the amount of tangling and the problem of the flies being in two different currents. Would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this.
@tacticalflyfisher38174 күн бұрын
Flies do have to be 50 cm apart, when hanging vertically, in the competition rules. Fishing 2 flies closer together could mitigate some of the issues I talked about in this video and the previous video. However, when I've experimented with this, I still find that casting is less accurate even when they are closer together. And at some point, I think it can be a potential source of spooking fish for them to see flies very close together. It's definitely something that each angler should be willing to experiment with on their own to see if something works better for them.

Super productive. Thanks for the video. If you weren’t kneeling and stood a couple feet back do you think that spot would have produced just as well?
@tacticalflyfisher38174 күн бұрын
Hard to say. I think I would have had a bit of a challenge to maintain similar leader angles without kneeling and getting that close. And I'm not sure I could have continued to avoid spooking fish otherwise but there may have been some holes in the boulders I could have stood in to help stay a bit lower. An 11' rod would have helped as well since I was fishing a 10' 6" rod.

Glad you liked it. I used Cortland Tricolor 5x since it shows up best for the camera. I used the Soldarini Hydropsyche Tournament 10' 6" 2/3 weight rod. I was using the Sakura Solid Pain Marker we sell in the shop. Not the Sakura Pen Touch we also sell.

“Nicely done “ …. Maybe a vid showing how u run 2 flies and then one to compare how u see the difference. U gotta push your shop a little harder so these guys can support as well as learn from you.

I already filmed a video fishing two flies and then transitioning to one. It's the follow up to this video. It may take me a bit of time to get together though given everything else going in the shop at the moment getting preseason orders in and prepping for Christmas. And maybe I don't advertise the shop enough in our videos, but I also get turned off by videos that try to sell a little too hard. I suppose maybe I'm erring more on the side of caution than I need to sometimes though.
