I had the great fortune of being up in front of the band with a young Sean Jones sitting in the trumpet section. As one of his high school band directors in the mid-90’s it was easy to see the incredible greatness bottled up inside him - ready to explode within the world of music. Such a dominating force as a performer and music educator! Love you, Sean!

As a very young jazz musician hearing this gives me goosebumps. Overall just great sound and it feels like the jazz spirit lives in everyone of these individuals.

Sean Jones is a great and I love to hear him play. However in these high school all star bands many of us would prefer to hear the kids featured, not the adult leader.

I completely disagree. What an incredible opportunity for these kids to work with and learn from a professional in action. Some of the best knowledge gained as a musician is watching and listening to someone better than you.

I imagine the kids are featured more on other songs. But can you imagine being one of these kids in a band led by Sean Jones one of the best trumpet players in the world and NOT hearing him solo?

Lol, "band leader" plays over a kid. I don't know the piece, so maybe the trumpet is supposed to drown out the sax.
