Still at a loss as to why there are so many people loitering in the subway in the first place. The subway is to get from point a to point B and nothing more. You’re not supposed to be down there, panhandling, selling food illegally, hustling, living there, or anything else. This is why we don’t want to take it. Raising the prices to get in and out of the city if you drive is not gonna help either. Many people are going to decide they don’t wanna deal with either option and move out of New York altogether . I’ve seen it happening rapidly over the past couple years. This whole city is going in downward spiral. The whole city government seems to be fractured from the top all the way down.

Agreed. Congestion pricing is discriminatory on many levels but especially for seniors, retirees, handicapped, and disabled. We are all at risk but younger, mobile individuals have a better chance at survival. The "leaders" of this city need to reevaluate and be more thoughtful in the plans they have been implementing for the past 20 years- things are getting worse and worse here-as a lifelong New Yorker I have a right to say this.

OMG, this is horrible! Setting a woman on fire in the actual subway train! Oh geez! That is NYC main transportation for millions of residents & visitors! This is worst than any horror movie. Nobody's going to want to be on the subway. I used to live in NYC..I loved taking the subway from my apt. and to my job which was very near times square.. I also took a train to get to my aparment (rent controlled at that time) to Central Park South, It was a off broadway & 80 first street, between columbus & Amsterdam. It was a lovely brownstone. Keep in mind that was in 1969...the good old days! It was a 4 story walk up, tiny 1 bedroom , kitchenette, bathroom, and a place to put a couch. It had a 5 door police locks, alota' locks. But I loved it, as it was only $165 a month! Rent controlled! I could walk to Central Park because it was only 2/maybe 3 blocks away.. I loved it, but I was only 25 years old from Florida..so it was so exciting! My parents did not want me to move to NYC...but I did, got acting jobs, had a great real job with Forum III Films on East 60th street (I cant remember) I'm 77yrs old back in Florida (which I'm sick of!) Those where in my Hippie days! You know love beads, John Lennon, Rita Cooledge, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Mama & the Pappas, Joan Biaz, Carly Simon, James Taylor, the whole gang of great musicans etc. Call me excentric, but I still believe that music, was much better than it is right now.

We need to give more power to everyday people to protect each other. It’s not that hard but the lawmakers live outside of how everyday people live.

This does not make any sense. How is her clothing able to burst into flames? They do not give you any of the details. Her clothing is not flammable unless there is an accelerant such as lighter fluid, gasoline, or kerosene. It is sad to see the deterioration of our society in my lifetime erode down to this level. Bring back funding for mental health so that we can at least address the issues at hand. Tackle the drug problem in our country before we do not have a country anymore.

You really never did? I lived in NYC all my life until I moved to a north NY State city. We had people regularly pushed on to the tracks in front of on coming trains. They died. And the culprit was homeless and mentally ill. Then there were the robberies by gun. I will never forget that at the Columbus Circle Station, a man with a gun tried to hold up a couple. A son went to rescue them. Then another son went to assist his brother. Finally the husband and father went to assist his two sons. They all were shot. And died right there. The family were tourists from the mid-west. I will never for get that terrible tragedy. But there were other tragedies too. When I retired, I left NYC.

@apphappy3796 I lived there from my birth in 1951 to my retirement in 2006. When I was 55 I moved to north NY State. As a child, around 11, my mother let me go to my grandmother's home, riding on the subway by myself. I think I'm a little older than you. Additionally, I lived in midtown. My home subway station was the East Side 86th Street. But we did visit relatives in other parts of the city, sometimes creepy parts. I don't know on which planet your NYC is located upon. But go and ask any older NYC resident and you'll get very similar information. Btw, just how can you call yourself old? You are mature, yeah. But you ain't old.
