Just yesterday I got the C.Crane CC Solar Observer emergency radio that you have reviewed. I am having a blast with this thing, and I'm amazed how many stations I can bring in. This radio is pretty good, and presents great value when it's half price. I often using it as a Bluetooth speaker when playing something from my phone or tablet. Overall, I like it. Thanks for reviewing it. Looking forward to next year's National Yellow Radio Day.

Agreed. The digital is easier to use but kinda lacks character. That slot machine dial is what sold me on my first one. I think I have 4 now.

Thanks TB! I have owned the HanRongDa and the Raddy for about a year now. The performance IS impressive. The Bluetooth, and SW modes work very well. Everyone should own one of these. U cant beat the 50 % off deal. I recommend the LCD screen version for ease of use. The analog dial on the Raddy is just too hard to read. Extra batteries are really cheap, and nice if you listen to it a lot. I get about 4-5 hours on one battery at a reasonable volume level. It does play loud so you can hear it in another room, but battery life will diminish accordingly. I find that this makes a great bathroom radio. Or, I haul it out to the garage for an afternoon listen. Some like it to be a great Bug-Out radio. Feature rich, and a real world performer IMHO. Happy National Yellow Radio Day everyone! 😎

I have 2 of HRD 701’s. The most recent one I purchased operates differently. The clock doesn’t stay on when the radio is off. The screen will go blank after about 5 seconds, until you push the power button and you have to press the power button twice to turn the radio on, one press displays the clock only for a few seconds. I’m not sure if there’s a setting I’m missing or if this was done to save battery life. I’m just wondering if you have noticed this on your radios, I prefer to have the clock displayed when the radio is off. Not a deal breaker, the battery does last longer in this mode. Thanks for all you do.

$15.99 to $29.99 is a GREAT 😊 price to pay 💰 for each of those radios 📻. Like 👍 you, I’m an analog geek. Tecsun and the other similar radios 📻, are my favorites. I was wondering what stores 🏬 sell them, if there is. I’m probably better off to wait to see them in thrift stores 🏬. That’s where I can find them for $5.99 to $49.99, depending on what shape they’re in, if they aren’t junk. Your friend, Jeff.

What do you call the device you attach to the antenna to receive radio stations more clearly??

The Kaito T-1 Wire. It is 22 feet long and you can reel it up when you are done using it. It comes with a jack, and an adapter that lets you clip it to the antenna. This adds a ton of gain to weak signals.

It's worth noting that the price difference between suppliers might also be explained as there is an, according to my opinion, improved version available. The "other" version, still called HRD 701, features changing SW bands by pressing the mod button. So when you use the dial and press the mod button it changes the position of the digit which is then flashing and can be quickly changed as you showed. If you wait until the flashing stops and then press the mod button, you change to the next SW band. Quite handy. The "other" version also completely switches off the display when powered off. Powering on requires two presses of the power button: The first press illuminates the display and shows the time for about five seconds. A second press will switch it on. Helps to further conserve power. Great! MW AGC reaction time is slow, the only downside.

Small world! Love todderberts channel! Actually the new version is HRD702, and now it comes in additional color like HRD700. It also features larger numbers on LCD in comparison to 701. Like you said some sellers are selling it under 701 model number.

Love the bands feature but I gotta have continuous display clock. Unless there’s some reason it drains the battery more than a digital watch.

@@radellaf I have the HRD-701 and the clock display is always on, with the radio powered off. to see it in the dark you press a button and the backlight turns on. As I read above there is a newer model for this unit. I have also now the HRD-A320 this guy just did a review of the unit under raddy brand.

Could be one of the radios that Kaito sells. They seem to have sold emergency radios in yellow for a long time. Though that could go to Tecsun, that I'm sure made some, along with Sangean many years ago.
