10:11 after staring at the puzzle for dozens of minutes, this triple started me down the path to solve completely, because it helped me solved for the 8s across the puzzle

They're reusing old puzzles, I remember playing this exact setup months ago, the 457 triple in C7 was the key to this one

Oh was wondering what I missed. I never pencilled r5c7 so missed the hidden triples. Instead I used some hideous chain that if r1c9 was 5 it made a 45 pair in box 6, and if r1c9 was 8 it made a 48 pair in the same cells. I suspect this is a corollary of the same triple. Horrible from me.

I played for an hour trying NOT to use that 138 because there's no logical reason to be looking for it. What can I put in this square? What can I put in this square? What can I put in this square? Oh, look, a triple! I'm going to play this puzzle for the rest of my life or until I find a strategic solve, whichever comes first!

What a strange limitation - naked triples are absolutely stragetic/logical and the NYT hard often depends on finding them.
