Perharps, suicide is not as usual on a tropical paradise. Patients, however, can always rely on thousands of private psychologists offices, call/visit mental hospitals directly, contact religious leaders, or talk to relatives. Actually, it is more disturbing the fact that there are suicidal Puerto Ricans unable to make phone calls due to the lack of power or telecommunications. But I highly doubt they are “millions”. According to the Forensic Sciences Institute of Puerto Rico, 188 out of 3.4 million Puerto Ricans committed suicide in 2016. The infrastructure of the call center represent what you can afford when you are the oldest colony in the world, and is rather inadequate to criticize that at this moment.

Julia Black Julia Black that was the most ridiculous, pretentious, and overblown statement i’ve ever had to endure in a youtube comments section. you could apply your logic to almost anything, and just end with a nihilist “we don’t matter,” conclusion rather than showing compassion for those who struggle with suicide constantly. one death often leads to the ripple of twenty more. also, the past is a concept, and time future or past is completely abstract.

The lines where kilometric for the supermarket, Gasoline for so many things that are necessities. We felt alone like there was nobody. I felt like I was trapped and it wasn’t going to end. I didn’t know if my classmates were alive or even in the island anymore. We felt ignored from the rest of the world. Maria gave a perspective in life that will forever be with me. Thank you for raising awareness with this documentary. I'm currently in Puerto Rico and this is exactly what's going on. Everyone's is losing hope and the level of anxiety has been through the roof. Everyone you talk to has gone to emergancy for one thing or another due to the massive amount of stress that's eating away on a daily bases. The majority of the people are still without light and with time you come to realize how much of daily routines from work to living is dependent on daily consumption of energy. The US is going to have to embrace the large amount of people exiting towards the mainland. Everyone I know has left or is leaving.

This country is corrupt and its sad to be living in a place that has no power or water for over 100 days and counting. Truly this is a travesty and i do not wish this upon anyone. The hurricane came and destroyed the island
@theblackswordsman75586 жыл бұрын
David Williams what is your deal man? You living in the comfort of your home have no right to judge anyone who endured the hurricane. I'm Puerto Rican. I currently live here. My parents still don't have a job. I missed a lot of days in school. And when we got back to school, I would leave at 12pm because we didn't have some teachers. It was like that until the last day of school. Every Puerto Rican had thoughts like this. It was not easy to get gas for the power plant. Super market lines were really long , and by the time we got in side everything was gone. There's still people on this day that still doesn't have power. And don't forget the fact that thousands of people died because of the hurricane and lack of power in the hospitals. Some people needed the power to stay alive. But the news only reported a few people dead.

*in these types of situations you have to be careful who you hire. Because if you hire a bad hearted person who only shows good to your face but bad to your back, that person may end up crushing lives instead of helping lives.*

I feel bad for being depressed compare to these people who lost everything.EVERYTHING. I'm so ungreatful wtf.
@branholo58145 жыл бұрын
Depression and suicide in a lot of people is really just narcissism and selfishness. When you think about the bigger picture, you step back and see that God blessed your life. Whenever you feel depressed, just thank God that you weren't born in a country like this

@@branholo5814 well... I don't believe in god and been tru lots of suicide attempt and i don't think i'm narcissistic but hey! Whatever right? Everyone is different Ahah

@@branholo5814 I mean I believe people go through tough situations, some can't handle it, and it hurts them alot. Of course not everyone believes in God and if you do that is fine. I just feel like instead of doing something because a God, do it for you. People are putting themselves down and though it's all just about them it isn't a good positive thing, it isn't narcissism. Doing good for you, for others, rather than putting God first. I apologize if I came off rude.

@@ione3674 Oh I was talking about people in the Western World who commit suicide on the pure basis of temporary situations of stress. Puerto Rico is a totally different story and we should have helped them a lot more. A lot of kids in the United States are bless to be living here and they commit suicide without thinking about how many good things they really have. You didn't come off rude at all

I’ve struggled with mental health issues since I was around 11, it’s been an uphill battle with myself. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and I give EVERYTHING I HAVE to help my island. Fuerza mi gente, la lucha es larga pero somos fuertes como roble.

i went to a national suicide hotline place and i had to listen to all of the words they said.. it had hurt me. One of them said “I’m tired of it all and I just want to end it but I just don’t want to, I’m only 12!!” and that just sent me

as a puerto rican, being part of this devastating tragedy, it was terrible. and the previous government we had, Ricardo Roselló, kept resources to himself. He didn't do anything. It was all so stressful.

As a Puertorican I say... every time the power goes out while in a virtual class, we panic. The sound of the wind scares my family. When an alarm sounds I get anxious. So, we are still affected by what happened.

I'm Puerto Rican and honestly it's been almost 4 years since hurricane Maria happend It was a pretty depressing year to be honest, thank God where I live I was with out electricity for like half of month and and 2 weeks with out water. The electricity came the same day that Thanksgiving was, it was actually surprising. But I have friends that unfortunately they didn't get electricity for like a whole year and the only thing I could do is just pray for them But I never lose faith and keep on going
