freedom dividend is quite literally welfare capitalism, aka social democracy (capitalism with a social safety net), which in some sense can be referred to as socialism (if one considers the etymology of the term and doesn't just pick their favorite definition from google). I would argue it would simply be a bandaid on a much bigger problem, would further prevent wage increases and probably just placate the masses even more. Your comment makes you sound like a social democrat which would align more with Bernie Sanders, who has spent his entire career trying to save capitalism by strengthening the safety net.

@le_th_5 жыл бұрын
Empathy for others. That is #1 what it takes to recognize a dystopia. Ability to think deeply about matters. That is #2. Personality traits scoring high on conscientiousness, mid-range on extroversion, and mid-range on agreeableness. Those are my guesses.
@le_th_5 жыл бұрын
@Mountain Whale Please tell how you expect to do that...create a society all will consider dystopian...when you have people with empathy who respect the social contract and the rights of others and those who prefer chaos and destruction (sociopaths and psychopaths) and ignore the rights of others? I eagerly await how you plan to achieve this. ...and you fail to understand what empathy is if you think it's "hippy love". "Data is the new oil." Yep, and we already live in ever-increasing data/message pollution, heading straight for the Dystopia Jaron describes.(If we're not already there) What we easily forget about Information is that it requires Energy to create, store and transport. Jarons plan sounds nice but it will just increase the huge amounts of energy already needed to run the Net, by adding another cascade of data energy from every single Info-event. Data centres use huge amounts of power, adding to the overall energy-use bill, and inevitably adding proportional heat to the system. Apple wanted to build a data centre in Ireland which would have used as much power as Dublin, the largest city of 1.5 million people....! ? Haven't even mentioned how financial Power will act as it always does....to maintain itself, like banks, corporations seeking monopoly Or the possible adverse mental health effects. Remember the opening scene of Johnny Mnemonic where people were twitching and jerking from NAS(Nerve Attenuation Syndrome), or Information Overload....?

While the vast majority of people have had enough experience with life's hardships to realize the difficulties there would be implementing something even remotely close to this. It's pathetic. It's a great start, but by making data more expensive for companies to mine and use, it encourages them to develop even more powerful predictive algorithms, and even more powerful methods of priming and suggestion to make sure that they are making the maximum amount of profit from showing you ads. Furthermore, this will drive companies to mine data in countries and locations where data protections do not yet exist, as well as to go to greater lengths to hide their data mining practices. It will also make the illicit purchase and sale of personal data much more lucrative.

This describes exactly the birth of influencers and how now almost every video you watch on YT, TT, FB, IG, whether it's just a family making a recipe or showing their baby, or a large company with multiple creators or personalities, they are all monetized by showing you ads or selling you things by saying a blurb about a product and posting links that include affiliate links or discount codes.
