This episode is a good example of what I’d like to see in the next election cycle. Deeper dives into key issues relevant to voters and how each party has addressed them or plans to address them.

What is unsaid in this podcast is the reason why companies like Intel and Boeing have fallen so far behind. Many American companies have spent decades spending their profits, and/or outright borrowing money, to buy back their own stocks, instead of investing in the companies' infrastructure, employees, and R&D. Companies in countries that did not do these types of grifting maneuvers by upper management end up in better positions as they did invest routinely in their employees, infrastructure, and R&D. American executives who made excessive amounts in compensation doing a leveraged buyout of their own companies from the inside are the ones to blame for ruining America's standing.

let's be real... these companies are not fleeing the US because of a lack of investment, they are looking for cheaper labor. which is why from the US's perspective, scaring them into staying put ( through tariffs) sounds like the better idea.

You can't "scare them into staying put" with tariffs. 🙄 You can only drive them out of business due to high costs. And that doesn't even factor in retaliatory tariffs - which Mexico Canada + China have all said they will impose on exports, which will put the American companies out of business for sure. 🤦‍♀️

Yes, and there’s nothing wrong with them looking for cheaper labor. That is why I don’t purchase from many companies. Also, those companies do not owe you a job you can open up your own business. Granted, opening up your own business requires a whole lot more effort than being somebody else’s surf. I mean employee.

@@cassandratq9301We have tariffs put on us by every country we do business with. It's called The Most Favored Nation clause from the WTO charter. America is always the Most Favored Nation. The reason why tariffs worked last time President Trump was in Office is because America is the Super Consumer Marketplace and every country wants to have access to us. To restrict that access is always devastating to their country or business. John Deere shouldn't have to move to Mexico because the prices on the parts they need are more expensive under their tariffs. Our country should be looking out for our citizens instead of China that's able to build entire cities (plural) nobody wants to live in. Or, our president shutting down America's Oil Production ending America's Energy Independence so he would be forced to buy oil from countries like Venezuela and collect his 10% for The Big Guy and causing a recession that's driving up the prices of everything!!!!

Raising the cost of minimum wage would only raise cost of the products made by that company. If McDonald’s is paying $20 an hour that Big Mac you buying is costing $8-10

Just remember when they said raise the minimum wage they also never applied it to the cost of living crisis they’ve created! Also worth mentioning that all those back room outsourced jobs have always included bribes going back to the Big Guy but he just pardoned his son and all the evidence in his son’s laptop is now being thrown out of court because Presidential pardon which was going to blanket his own son’s activities for the last 10 years. And of people don’t believe this is wrong are the problem in America… Harris will be appointed President before January 6th and give Biden a Pardon along with a bunch of other people in his circle in their Administration. Ross Perot tried to warn American citizens that Free Trade will cost America jobs, he was absolutely right but he left out the fact that in Global Trade that there will be money exchanged for contracts awarded and only those individuals involved in our Government will become rich from all the shenanigans that will never be made public because they will also own the media and TV Stations who will never talk about what’s actually happened in our country. Every Congressional person involved should have been arrested and tried and convicted of crimes against our nation but so many were and still are that it’s probably never going to happen. AOC a bartender who was hand selected to represent New York won a Congressional seat, she has managed to get re-elected despite her record of being an embarrassment at her job and manages to have a net worth in the millions, there is something wrong with that picture. America has been sold out by the people in Congress and the president as long as he goes along with it, gets to serve two terms and gets a nice parting gift later… Look how much money the Obama’s have managed to make after he left office, must be some serious money when they can afford to own several multi million dollar homes scattered around the USA. That’s just the homes we know about…Nothing to see here, move along and be happy.

Investing in chip manufacturing is much bigger than "us manufacturing". Chips are a extremely important for national security. China can invade Taiwan with TSMC and would then have a monopoly on the highest tech chips. We have to be self reliant on the cutting edge chips. Investing in Intel is a no brainer because it's essentially the only company that would be vertically integrated in the US, from the design to the manufacturing.

If Bidens approach is to invest in industries then with what money is the US investing with? Is it adding to the national debt? I’m basically ignorant on trade and the economy, but Trump’s approach logically sounds more complex, but also better in the long run. At least, from what I gather from this convo.

We should put tarriffs on high paying industries so we can bring back quality jobs. We should also put tarriffs on industries vital for national security or hostile countries, such as China. Tarriffing all goods from friendly nations like Canada and Mexico though is just stupid imo

That’s why ppl cannot understand what you are saying, you assume that everyone can follow what you are saying. Proper example is to pick something like avocado at 1 dollar and with tariffs going to 2 dollars. The US industry will try to sell avocados for 2 dollars as it’s the price they have to compete with, not trying to reach the same price of 1 dollar from other world suppliers, so in the end is the consumer that gets to pay way more and lose buying power, while sometimes not even being able to produce the same quality due to environment, education, etc. sure consumers may swallow the new price losing buying power and creating inflation or it may not buy the product as it’s the double of what it used to be, making all investment and jobs being destroyed. Business ppl will not take that risk unless government picks the bill/risk, make taxpayers always the losers no matter what.

America is the Super Consumer Marketplace and every country wants access to it. We don't have to abide by the automatic tariffs put on us by the WTO in the Most Favored Nation clause from everyone country we do business with. Trump stated he'll put 100% tariffs on China and India. Tariffs are taxes and as the announcer stated, those taxes will be passed on to consumers in the USA, so if he taxes China, what useta cost you $50, then you'll pay $100 for it, sounds great for the USA economy? Sending Mexicans back to Mexico, with the US drug problem and lack of military recruitment, who going to war for the US, who's going to do the jobs? Prison-workers? News flash, look at the label on your shirt, underwear, appliances, etc., where are they being made?

@eckharttolle-nq7qu ❤🦃 Turkey bird !! Do the research ! Find out what Trump did on the tariff issue his first time around. What I read, tells a far different story. Inflation ?? Here is the truth- Tariffs are a very complicated quagmire- more so than just about any issue. Other presidents have attempted to get involved, Bush Sr. and Clinton like Trump were soon in over the head, unlike Trump they bowed out. Trump, being stupid, lashed out at various countries- who reacted as they did in a reciprocal way. With China, Trump fucked the soy bean farmers, saying a deal was made to sell so many containers. Happy they could do business, they sent loads to the docks. The ships, lines, and China knew nothing of this deal. Contacted, the Chinese official that should know of this deal, expressed bewilderment- said no deal was made. Chinese people eat a whole bunch of soy beans. They would like soy beans. America’s soy beans are great, but not when they rot at the docks. Makin’ America great again- nope. Trump subsidized the farmers throughout his term. With money borrowed. Adding to the National debt. Remember that ? Repub.’s used to care about it. Today it’s not an issue. Dem.’s run it up too. That’s why neither side will much mention it. They’re both perfectly fine to kick the can down the road. Tariffs are an old thing, they’ve evolved over many years. A quick aside- Which President last balanced the budget. Clinton. Trump took out his frustration on other countries, a tariff put on milk, imported into Canada caused Mexico to come to their defense, applying tariffs on the U.S. Trump turned his sights to Europe. Eventually a letter was written to Trump, signed by every trade union- 600+ of them. It said please stop. Trump thought he was smarter than the industry. He wasn’t. Like the Covid- He pushed forward his view- ignored America’s Dr.’s Result: more American’s died than any other people. With half the worlds Docs- who went to med schools, in America and the worlds best medical infrastructure. Is that making America great again ? NOPE.
