I just watched Room With A View last night. First time in many years. Such a marvelous story and it has that unique sophistication of every thoughtful detail. So different from the sort of period romantic movies we see today which are completely unsatisfying, lacking authenticity and believability. Merchant Ivory knew how to reveal ES Forster’s intent.

An admirably relaxed and sympathetic lecture as well as wonderfully insightful. The location is perfect. Thank you so much.

I only watched the first lecture with Dorothea Barrett, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very engaging speaker and interesting insights into A Room with a View and E. M. Forster. I'll have to read the book again!

It's truth Forster was a Liberal, not a Conservative. He defended Lawrence and was of course, against every kind of puritanism and its hipocresy. A Room with a View is one of his finest books. 💎❤️🆗👍🤗

Dr Barrett made a mistake i.e. 'In 2003 the Women's Social and Political Union was established by Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst'. It was 1903. Thank you for the interesting lecture and not least the fashions of the time of the novel.

10:20 what is so silly about Forster wearing Indian costume?

To apply her prejudice to his boarding school is idiotic. In fact what made the young EM Forster the man and author he became started at that environment. The "oppression" formed a diamond, argualbly formed his art and passions for freedome. This point is lost on the speaker

Not a particularly sophisticated lecturer and a completely unresponsive audience.

Yes, all of the speakers seemed very boring. The Italian lady sounded more alive, but she sounded confused between British and American accents!

As a person is - So they see. The lecture regardless of your comment and similar remarks was far from boring but was delightful.

I disagree the audience was "unresponsive" when the lecturer made a joke her audience laughed !
