The Center on Civil Justice at NYU School of Law hosted a one-day conference on the subject of legislative efforts to regulate legal funding.
While recent third-party funding conferences and events have discussed some of the most relevant and current issues in the field, those subjects are not always the ones being looked at by regulators, and certainly not by legislators.
The conference consisted of three panels, each focusing on a different bill and the underlying issues that it raises. The bill sponsors were invited to present, along with experts on the topics the bill covers. Through these three panels, covering three bills, the event aimed to bridge the gap among the academic debate over third-party funding, the practitioner and lobbyist debate, and the legislative debate.
