NZ: Unsettled weekend as low pressure returns

Some dry and calm weather is back in the forecast for the remainder of the working week but this weekend a low in the Tasman Sea looks set to disrupt things by bringing in more rain, showers and cloud. Not everyone will get rain - or get much of it. In fact most regions lean drier than normal over the next week ahead.
As for the Big Picture - the Southern Ocean is still very stormy and continues to dominate NZ’s weather pattern, with the tropics very quiet so far - but some signs of life developing up there as we head into February.

Yes a lot of southerlies/easterlies past few weeks due to high pressure tracking further southwards. And before the cloudy/cooler change lately you had those nor'westers bringing dry/hot weather in November etc. Not a good set up for growing most plants.
