A cooler feeling day for many on the South Island and lower North Island today as winds switch to southerlies and cold air moves up the country.
After a wild weekend of weather, the North Island will have a quieter couple of days for Tuesday and Wednesday as high pressure builds across the country with sunshine helping temperatures return to normal for the time of year.
Wet and windy weather pushes closer to the far south of the country on Tuesday before heading northwards on Wednesday. Heavy rain watches and strong wind watches cover the far south of New Zealand from late in the day on Tuesday.
