I love the layers of this song. The grandiosity with the everyday lamentable lyrics. The piano is like honey driving this with the tasty synth and orchestration building drama. Tim Finn's falsetto just breaks your heart. I love me some Split Enz!

Always loved this song. The piano is brilliant and Tim's voice is fabulous. A beautiful song.

A glorious, grandiose, multi-layered genius of a song; tempered by the haunting sweetness of Tim Finn's voice. Split Enz have to be one of the most underrated bands ever, nearly every song they wrote and performed was superb.

What an epic song. Much in the vein of Ultravox's Vienna, this should be a lauded masterpiece of New Wave history. This is my first time hearing Split Enz and I just fell in love again. True Colours is starting to sound like a magnus opus to me.

+German Salazar It is undoubtedly exactly what you said. Glad you discovered them, they are amazing :-)

The haunting notes (not so much pizzicato strings) are reminiscent of Vienna. What a wonderful musical reference and connection.

Totally agree and I am an INXS and Ultravox fan too, lol as well as Split Enz, True Colours album was I think their best! Another one to listen to if you are feeling nostalgic is Icehouse ! Back in the 80's I liked some of there stuff but not as much as the other bands, but on a good day Ivor Davies voice sounds bit like David Bowies! (Really)

The artistic dynamic Crombie gave for these videos is absolutely amazing. The music punctuates so well with the ballroom dancers and Malcolm Green's slow walk across the dance floor with the drum kit between 3:01 to 3:36. Rayner's piano playing is like listening to Mozart :)

"Life, it's no fun when you're hunted by the things you feel". For mine, this is one of the most profound lines ever written in a song. As a long time sufferer of depression, and at the age Paul Hester was when he took his own life, this line cuts very close to home for me. Sally, you will never know the pain you caused me. I loved you more than you could ever know and always will, but I hope I never see you again. The pain is just too much.

Arguably one of the finest song ever written. I await for some 20-something to discover this and do it on one of the modern song shows like American Idol or the like. No other song that I know of says "go f__k yourself" as adroitly and with such passion as this one does. "I hope I never have to see you again." Thanks for posting it.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna pop a coupla Valiums and do a coupla shots of Tequila. Ha-ha ! ! LOL! ! The lead has good hair by the way. "Bouncin & behavin!"
