Yes , great song. I graduated in 1977. but this song came out in 1980. So I had Boston's first album in 1976.So what is my point.i think a groups first album remind oneself as a marking point in one's high school years. My graduation year was 1977.Dire Straits. Rock on.

The 80's had their ups and downs. It wasn't perfect. I think of all the good times and forget the bad, but I would give my left nut to go back in time to relive it all over again. Journey, REO Speedwagon, British Steel, British Invasion, RUSH, ACDC, the list is extensive. Today there seem to be fewer artists with any quality and talent. Too many samplers. Too man Autotune crap.

I wish I would have gotten into the Enz earlier in life, but as the old saying goes, “better late than never”. These guys were geniuses , and if the internet had been around back in the 70s and 80s, they would have easily been one of the biggest bands ever.

creepy sounds in the verse, more upbeat in the chorus and the mix is great, the song writing is great. Everything sounds like it fits like a glove and that vid.... man, the effects they added to his singing in the verse were so subtle but you could tell it had some fast parts like they filmed at diff speed. This was right before MTV so this vid ballooned these guys way, way up. Very unusual also to change from minor to major inside the verse back and forth. That's very rare. Usually people start minor then once they switch to major they stay there a while like maybe an entire chorus then verse is minor. Here, 2 lines min, next 2 major. I dont' think I've ever heard that in any other rock or pop song.

I love that the verses are made to sound uneasy and anxious; the 007 style muted guitar riff, the Prophet-5 synthesizer lead in the background, punctuating every sentence with a ghostly, distant howl. It's all so suspenseful and really makes me feel like I am alone in my room, lamenting over my love for someone, still paranoid and damaged from a previous relationship; just not trusting enough yet. Then the chorus kicks in all Elvis Costello style, with poppy organ and major chords, and Neil starts apologizing, stumbling over his words to the girl he loves. She wonders why he is so anxious and wound up over what she might be doing without him, behind his back, or when she doesn't answer the phone. "I don't know why sometimes I get frightened." he says, and then seeks reassurance "Tell me you're not lying". This is what makes a song fantastic. It all lines up! The sound, the lyrics, and the topic are all tightly nit; the tone of the music matches the mood of the lyrics, and it all comes together in a catchy song. I'm sure a lot of us have been in that jealous relationship, where you don't trust your lover because you think they're way out of your league, and could have anyone, so whenever you're left alone, you begin to ruminate over how they're probably not interested in you. "Why would she want to be with me, when she could have anyone?"

I always liked this song. The chorus always stuck with me cos it was always played at the fairground when we were on the walzer in the late 70s and early 80s great memories ❤
