Thanks for pushing him on the National-Green relationship. It's a great frustration of mine as an occaisonal Green voter that they refuse to play the game and do what it takes to win. I don't vote Green to have more Greens+Labour, I do it to get Green policies done. Work with whoever gets the job done! Take off the requirement of being shackled to Labour rain or shine.
@HenrythePaleoGuy

And you're more likely to get said green policies through with Labour. Don't you realise the Nats are more opposed to passing things the Greens would want than they would with Labour? No one whatsoever suggests the same thing with ACT, and it's because they'd both have a poor working relationship and leverage. National wants to cut DOC funding by 6.5% to fund their tax cuts!

Seriously? Would a firefighter team up with an arsonist? The main difference between National and Labour is Labour supports Greens policies albeit a little less enthusiastically than the Greens whereas National are reversing all of Green/Lab carbon emission reduction and climate change mitigation policies, using the ETS funds to fund tax cuts rather than any action on carbon emissions and, the icing on the cake, resume offshore oil and gas drilling. Greens and National would be a coalition of hell. Read the room, it ain't going to happen.

Shaw was unable to answer the first question. He gave a variation of the same answer that Peters gave Tame when asked the same question. However, in this interview Tame didn’t jump on Shaw for details like he did with Peters. There were two people in the Tame/Peters interview. This interview is a completely different tone. Perhaps Tame realised his part to play in the negative aspects of the Peters interview, took on board some lessons learned, and make some adjustments.

That number is misleading as fuck. Not blaming you, it gets thrown around a lot. Using raw, nominal dollar numbers to measures changes in govt spending overtime is bad finance. The measure to use is govt spending as a percent of GDP. When Key came to power, it was about 31.5%. Over his 9 years, it slowly lowered to about 27.5%. Labour have increased it again. Last year was 30.5%, during 2021 it was 33%. National won't dramatically reduce the number of dollars spent. (They are talking about $8bn in savings, the total govt budget is up ~65bn since 2017) If you took it back down to Key levels it would be disastrous because time have moved on. The economy is significantly bigger than it was 6 years ago (~30% larger), inflation has changed the value of a dollar, our population is a lot larger (about 500k more NZers) ect. I have no problems arguing that Labour have spent too much (31% Lab vs like 28% for National), but this "spending is up 80%" is hyper misleading. I don't blame you tho. Its quite a shocking number, and without the context seems insane. But yeah, keeping the budget at the same level means worse outcomes not even outcomes. Which is why a National govt would increase the govt budget by less, but still large percentages over a 6 year period. I know you won't read this, so idek why im writing it.

Imagine working 60-70hrs over a week from 18 till 65 (47Yr) and building up a business and assets worth $5 million, along the way paying $100's of thousands or millions in taxes, supplying income to many employees to raise their own families, buy a home etc.. Then when your getting ready to retire and live a nice remainder of life (not taking super either due to your wealth), to have these politicians (Green Party) take 2.5% PA off your hard earned assets (wealth) per year, to give to others who hardly work and have paid 1/4 of the tax you have or waste it on unproductive policies.

This party cannot be truly considered a green party unless the term "green" is interpreted to mean a party affiliated with the United Nations or aligned with socialist principles. They primarily focus on addressing carbon emissions, as advocated by the United Nations' carbon zero policies, which some see as a questionable way to transfer funds from developed to developing countries, especially China, which is the largest emitter of carbon but enjoys favorable terms under the UN agreement. Their recent emphasis on dental care seems like a last-minute attempt to gain more votes, and their overall ideology revolves around socialism-a single-minded approach that is perceived to rely heavily on taxing the wealthy as a means to alleviate poverty. However, many argue that the true path out of poverty involves concentrating on production, the sale of goods and services, and supporting businesses, rather than imposing heavy taxes on them to redistribute to the less fortunate. It's important to note that wealthy countries often have superior environmental and healthcare standards, regardless of the tax rate. Taxation alone is not the solution to lifting people out of poverty. The experiences of countries like China and other socialist-leaning nations, including Sweden, which has abandoned some of its high tax rates and lacks a minimum wage, serve as examples that suggest the limitations of this far-left New Labour party's approach. Many believe that this party should be more transparent about its true ideology and stop presenting itself as a champion for environmental causes.

This pretty much nails how many feel about the incumbent government. 1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. 2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. 3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else 4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it! 5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

@steeeeve8676

I agree a tax free band is much easier but compared to the rest of the first world nations New Zealand's wealthy get away pretty much tax free. It has nothing to do with envy, more to do with making people pay their fair share. If you want a direct comparison on country vs. country, look no further than Finland. Happier, wealthier, more successful, similar population, ultra modern compared to tired old NZ yet taxed far more than the Green's proposal. Finland has seen continued strong growth throughout times of world hardship and banking crisis. New Zealand has stalled because of disproportionate tax on certain demographics, in fact under the current labour government the wealthy in NZ have increased their wealth more than ever before in history while poverty continues to skyrocket. NZ is disintegrating. Majority of small businesses are now owned by foreigners, infrastructure is falling apart and all of the home grown talent is moving overseas for better lives and wages. Something drastic needs to be done and soon and that should start by taxing the wealthy not through taking more off the poor.

Therefore, it would be in the interest of New Zealanders and all future generations, to minimise emissions. One simple way to reduce emissions, is to transition into a future that is less dependent on dairy, keyword being transition, which does take time.
