A lot of comments here about the poor ... If you want to see the real NZ, go to any WINZ office in one of the larger centres on any day of the week. Stand in line - you can hear the difficulty people are having ... and its a real eye-opener, about how the other half live. As a superannuitant I have been to our local office 3 times in the last 3 weeks, for a couple of things - and its both depressing and heartbreaking. No-one knows until you've been there and stood in line with others worse off than you, whether its from accident, loss of work, people trying to get their entitlements, fighting for them ... some ppl have no phones, really struggling even just to communicate .... others with obvious mental health issues, its just heartbreaking. And the security guards on the doors just sums everything up.

As much as I dislike Act, I love how Seymour keeps undermining Luxon. The goal isn't usually to negotiate to a person's bottom line. It's about finding the middle ground, as any deal should benefit both parties. If you go into every negotiation to try get the most for the least out of the other party then your not working in good faith and I doubt anyone would want to work with you. If you hire someone you don't straight away when it comes to salary negotiations push that person to compromise all the way down to their minimum number where they are about to walk out the door. That whole argument was stupid, Jack obviously doesn't understand negotiations

BY slowing the economy and reducing GDP its actually harder to pay down debt, his attitude is if a household has less income, then they need to cut their expenses, but the debt level still remains the same where logically they need to increase the income to make any debt more serviceable
@treaca022 сағат бұрын
This government’s so-called economic strategy of 'balancing the books' is like claiming I’ve improved my household budget by refusing to pay the power bill. Sure, my bank account might look healthier in the short term, but my house is now in the dark. Neglecting essential investments to show a prettier balance sheet isn't financial responsibility-it's shortsightedness. Success measured by the wrong metrics isn't success at all.

Infrastructure is crumbling National got rid of 3 Waters and where is it's replacement (broken pipes and arsenic) ? Ferries cancelled where is it's replacement (NZders on the hook for +$500m contract cancellation fees). It was National who lobbied hardest to get the government to lift the $250k per company cap on corporate assistance during the pandemic and the sort of people who lobby hardest for the current administration are the sort of people who subsequently rorted the system like there was no tomorrow. I have never seen Luxon as a good speaker or interview well, with at times coming away less informed. If there are people who think Jack was not letting luxon speak and interrupting him too often. Its because Luxon was not answering any direct questions with direct answers and avoiding it by going straight into some kind of elaboration or information dump that is not a direct answer. If luxon gave a direct answer first, i'm sure Jack would have allowed luxon to elaborate in detail to explain his answer. Which is quite a common characteristic that Jack has with his interviews. But because of the lack of direct answers this was a very messy exchange and if jack let luxon not answer direct questions then this is not a informative debate but just luxon having the floor to himself saying whatever he wants.

All i can see from the current government is cuts to the public sector, switching off necessary infrastructure projects without any sign of alternative plans, and failure to look constructively at our current tax system. While i agree that there needs to be SOME cuts to the public sector, the government has not addressed any other issue. The Reserve Bank was responsible for reducing inflation, not the government. The country needs more revenue in order to pay down debt. (Our tax take has reduced!) The actions of this government have been piece meal, uncoordinated, and appear to lack any long term planning in order to encourage economic growth.

Scared of tough questions? Not as much as our no-nothing prime minister, I bet.
@AnnSmith-u9c4 минут бұрын
Let him speak! The majority voted, this is what we have . Jack asks complex questions and we’re lucky to hear a sentence in reply without Jack butting in! When any left opposition parties are interviewed he is quite a different interviewer.

"What I say to you Jack" is you did a Sterling job asking your very thought provoking questions, unfortunately our Illustrious leader is so out of touch with the county's economy and race relations that he couldn't /didn't know the answers. Methinks he is anti Maori and he wanted the Treaty principles Bill tabled. Remember also his bottom feeder comments .....

This guy is completely out of his depth. Completely out of his depth. He's not a PM. He's a back office, not to be seen guy. He doesn't know how to handle interviews and then giggles when he doesn't know the answer.

He's still banging on like he's in opposition. Everything is about Labour. "Labour did this, Labour did that." Jesus, aren't you meant to be the guy in charge? Our economy has gotten worse in the past 12 months. Why aren't you telling us what your plan is?
@petertrott510743 минут бұрын
Jack why don't you start a think tank or task force for saving tvnz news. With all your questions I challenge you to come up with a solution for each, then arrange an action group to do it successfully - economically viable and on time.

@dancelover558Сағат бұрын
Can see why Luxon has refused to come on Q&A up till now. His grip on government is fragile. Hes no leader. Neither is he a negotiator. His knowledge of current economics is shaky - or hes a liar or both. He relies on talking points provided by his large team of minders. Blaming Labour who left him an economy rated AAA by S &P & a positive outlook by Treasury & RB. Hes all talk ("massive focus on delivering outcomes") word salad, talking over interviewer, doesnt answer questions & laughs when faced with the facts that economy is in poor shape, poor have got poorer, low performance on climate, Seymour's Bill was not a bottom line in Coalition negotiations.
