The pro tip to easily increase airflow is to Dremel out the holes from the grille ( they are put there because of safety laws ) and then manually add a wire fan grille/guard ($2). Easy 20-30% better airflow versus trying to force air through those stamped metal grilles at a few mm offset. They also look fairly attractive as well, making the gaping hole look like it was intended instead of just drilled/cut out. If the thing is solid metal, just get a 4.5 inch hole saw, and sand the edges afterwards. Drill 4 screw holes, and done. Install the fan(s) and wire grille(s). It will look completely factory provided you measure and align everything.

Have you ever thought of having a test metric for cases, that is focused on a 'best fan option' scenario, where you put the best orientations of fans from your storage shelf, regardless of maker, count or size ... into a case ... to see how good a case 'can be', if enough fans and/or the best cooling setup was used? It might: - Really show what a case 'could cool like' in a best case setup scenario, - inform viewers by way of chart, as to the very best way to set up their home enthusiast builds, for a given case. Obviously this completely upends any budget build goals, but in most situations enthusiast builders who have spent $1-2000 on parts, would likely order a couple $30+ fans if they 'thought it would do any good' to protect their investment, but have no testing methodology to rely on, as to if it really is helping. This is probably a hell-hole of difficult when it comes to baseline balancing a chart, which may be why you dont do it.

they have traditionally shyed away from the category of "so you're in love with this case and want to make it work no matter what, here are stages of upgrades to get more out of it" but of course, there are certain cases unique enough that you can find those kinds of reviews, but those cases are often as unique in use-case as they are in style, or cater to specific small groups of people (the cat case behind Steve) so even then, it's super niche and not worth most people's time except as pure entertainment, which is more of a Linus/Bitiwt avenue, and Steve seems content to let them have that space, even though Steve's opinion would arguably be much more valueable than the others

It seems like a valid thought process to believe that NZXT knows this case will sell well regardless of high price because of individuals who understand the importance of airflow, therefore were not willing to purchase the other areas of the H500 series no matter how much they really liked the look. So... do you think your reviews were the driving force behind so many companies moving towards airflow cases? Was this something the engineers had talked about internally, but were ignored by the suits in favor of more tempered glass & RGB until GN started pointing out the obvious? Or was this something that just wasn't on their radar to begin with?
@GamersNexus2 жыл бұрын
I would hope that people realized before us that cases should have airflow, and certainly there's evidence of that, but a lot of the companies became fully entranced by glass back when the industry shifted from plastics / acrylics to tempered glass. Someone added a tempered glass side panel, so to compete, someone else added a tempered glass front panel, and so on. To answer the question: A mix of both. We had a lot of engineers & designers tell us they needed ammunition for management, but there were also several companies that came to us over the years with questions about what they should do. At this point, nearly every major case manufacturer has asked to spend significant time with us at events or on the phone to talk about design (we don't do it as consulting, but if we have time, we'll sometimes give them ideas).

I wish case reviews simply had a "Best Thermal Configuration possible" Noise & Thermal test (using whatever amount of Noctua 120/140 ... fans, or even stock ones if bigger special ones). Most people are willing to buy extra fans for their case instead of leaving it "as bought", and Standardized is kinda dumb as you're putting the same setup in a Mini case or a Huge one, which doesnt make any sense and nobody would do. Which only result in showing the full power of smaller case (that dont have bottom intake) while "nerfing" the big ones. Most people just want to know how good the case can be, so having a test showing and comparing the best config each of them can achieve would make most sense and be ideal for most watchers instead of Stock and/or Standardized charts. Afterwall, we're testing how good the given case layout is compared to other cases layouts, so isn't it only normal to utilze it to the best it allow and show that ? Idealy "Best Thermal Configuration possible" would need two test, one for CPU air cooler and one for CPU AIO cooler, as nowaday AIOs are in at least half of the new builds made. What I also fear is that some manufacturer start creating cases that do well specificaly in these configs just so it goes high on your charts and it boost their sales, regardless of the actual performance of the case in configs that make more sense for the end-user.

But it's hard to justify spending more money on new cases when I already have perfectly-functional cases. I would hope that most people hang on to their cases for a long time. It's one of the best ways to prevent (e-)waste.

The new case's should have better ventilation on the sidepanel to provide better airflow on the sides of the gpu area either by bigger holes in the side panel or possibility to place a fan to directly extract the heat that emanates from the gpu on the side.

So glad I bought a Lancool II mesh when it was recommended by GN, great case, and still topping the charts a couple of years later.

i like front windows, idk why more people aren't doing the side intake that the O11 and 5000D/7000D do.

still building in my NZXT Appollo case, thing is built well, can handle the thermals and overall looks good. Dated? well a bit- Front door, 1394 port only usb 2 on side panell. but still good. got thhis and a decent Corsair mid tower. a lot of others i have botten over the years have not been worth the scrap metal they eventuallly were turned into.

I cannot wait until GN starts displaying charts of their conclusions/recommendations. At 23:31 the NZXT is rated as, "It's fine." Then at 23:44 another rating is applied: "We don't hate it." Finally, at 23:57 we learn, "It's not worth it."

23:03 problem is as someone looking to buy a new/replacement case I don’t care about that, I don’t work for NZXT or have shares in them so how much it’s costing them isn’t my concern as a customer the only thing that matters to me is getting a good case at the lowest price I can.

I'll admit I bought a h500 a few years ago. Ive not had horrible thermals, but I haven't overclocked. Anyway, the one thing that impressed me about NZXT. I emailed them saying that I had broken my top panel usbs and could I buy a replacement board. It was totally my fault and I told them that. This was last year just starting into the shortages. I got a prompt email back saying that they were out of stock of the board, but would send one as soon as they could. And, a month or so later I received the replacement part at no cost. They did not ask for proof of purchase or serial/part numbers. It's a little thing, but means a lot to me. Not trying to knock GN or any of their reviews. I love what you guys do and stand for. It's so rare today. Just a small consumers point of view.

You know, personally speaking, the big NZXT on the lower front panel is a deal killer for me. I don't care for my PC cases conspicuously advertising their brand in large text. Overly conspicuously branding on PC cases makes me feel like the case manufacturer is laying too much 'claim' to the resulting build as a whole, when they were involved in only a small portion of it.

My Phanteks case has its brand name on a removable sticker. I know it's removable because it keeps falling off.

I really dont like most NZXT cases, especially the H710. But I once got a good deal ($50) on the NZXT Phantom 410 (pretty old now). For my specific use case its been amazing and still in use. Has 3 5.25" bays which I needed. This case is packed with 2 air cooled GPUs and an air cooled CPU and still holds decent temps, mostly due to the side panel fan intake. Even with this one time good case (to me) I still dont like the 510 Flow or any newer NZXT case.
@brownshit12 жыл бұрын
I picked up a tecware forge (medium) case that came with 4 fans for $58USD. Very cheap airflow focused case that I'm actually incredibly impressed with it. Would be interesting to know how it stacks up, though I understand you simply can't test every case on the market.

white version of the H510 Flow is really nice, but NZXT defo messed up releasing it at double the price of a Corsair 4000D. Now it seems to be equal price but its too late.

Still wish they had 240 rad support in the roof. There's room. Bought a 3rd party front for my h210. Massively improved temps and can fit a full-size 3090 and a 240 in it now.

Fairly new to the channel, been a PC fan since i was a kid, but was never able to actually afford a proper gaming pc till now. Can honestly say I absolutely love the thorough reviews and cant wait till the 2021 awards, so I can properly decide what case to use for my first proper gaming pc! Hoping the 011 air mini does well, since that would fit best on my desk...

Never thought I'd see this day. I had an H510 and the thermals were so bad. I switched to a 4000d airflow and the temps have dropped a couple degrees. Probably won't buy it though cause the 4000d can fit a 360 Rad. I do own the N7 B550 and X73 Kraken though. Loved the company's simple design.

I ditched my H500 pretty quickly because of poor front intake. I didn't realize at the time how stupid the front intake system was. I still have it hacked up for parts somewhere. Meshify S2 with all fans populated rocks.

Don't worry about the airflow they say. That's why I had to drill holes in the front of my H500 when I upgraded to a 5800x
@cyb3rblitzx5302 жыл бұрын
Fun fact, because I no longer needed to be able to draw air through the tiny slot at the bottom, I was actually able to fit a 360mm rad in that airflow chamber with 2 fans on the inside of the case in a pull configuration. This has resulted in a much better CPU temperature for me. This led to a decrease in over 25c at idle.

can confirm that NZXT has always overtightened thumb screws (and motherboard standoffs for that matter). Almost all the thumb screws on my h500 were overtightened and poorly inserted and now most of them are stripped or have damaged the metal to the point of uselessness.

NZXT is probably still upset about the work you did on the fire-starting riser cable, and the attempt at a forced recall.

Interestingly enough, this case is actually not that badly priced in comparison to most other cases, at least it seems so in Denmark where they're all roughly priced the same, will gladly pay a bit more for a better looking design.

that is completely correct, but your comment tells me you have not bought a nzxt case, they do exaggerate, and paint does get fucked up on almost every spot where there is a screw if you buy a white case, when you remove filters or replace fans, that white paint will come off where the screws are, guaranteed
