Here's a very rough translation/commentary of the recipes. Please correct me if I messed up/am missing info! Tamagoyaki - No recipe given, but it looks like mirin and salt is added to the egg mixture. There's different ways to make it, so it does come down to personal preference. Make sure to oil the pan well though! Chicken patties Unknown amount of ground chicken (sorry, I can't eyeball that) 1/4 onion 1 Tbsp sake ginger (small amount) 1 Tbsp potato starch salt (2 dashes?) Sauce 1 Tbsp soy sauce 1 Tbsp mirin 1 1/2 tsp sake 2 tsp sugar Garnish with shiso leaves and mentaiko (walleye pack roe, the pink stuff when it's in the bento box). Green pepper side - I think Japan cultivated green peppers to be smaller. Did a search for ピーマン (piiman) and green bell pepper popped up, so I'm pretty sure you can use the larger variety too. Slice thinly and microwave for 2 minutes (wattage not given). Add sesame seed oil, sesame seeds, and konbu. The konbu (seaweed, but not the the kind for sushi) is salted and dried. Breakfast (if anyone was interested) - egg on cheese toast, topped with mayo. Side salad with what seems to be sesame dressing and sausages.

Oh! So I think the pepper may be a poblano pepper? Though, the ones shown tend to be a tiny bit lighter in color, but the color can range. They're like bell peppers, but the flesh is thinner and tougher, with a bit of spice when cooked. I don't know if thats what it is, but it looks like one! :)

I think Japanese people usually add sugar to the tamagoyaki, but nice observation tho
I liked the atmosphere, sounds and of course your bento! And it was so nice when you cleaned the table during the cooking

As lovely this is, working parents just don't have time/energy for this sort of meal preparation every day. These sorts of expectations on women are why the birth rates in Japan & South Korea are the lowest in the world.

see, I always brought my own lunch, because school food was more expensive and six times unhealthier

GreenGretel lunch box had nothing to do with the birth rate in Japan or Korea😂.I was born and raised in Malaysia and we do have cafeteria but the food sucks,we only have 30minutes to queue, buy and eat the food.Plus we are poor. But my mom managed to wake up extra early in the morning and made us breakfast as simple as fried rice or fried noodles🤷🏻♀️Nothing fancy shmancy.. If your kids dont mind eating pop tarts, cereal or frozen donuts in the morning,go ahead and do your thing. But dont bs things you didnt know. And you save alot of money bringing lunch box to school or to work.I continued to do the same thing when i moved to Singapore and im doing the same thing for my husband now im living in the US.Nothing wrong with slightly dedication to eat better instead of eating out all the time all day long. Thats why we asian live longer😂

@@Lo-ed4fq Um. The hugely disproportionate amount of housework/child-rearing expected of working mothers in developed, post-industrial East Asian societies (if they're even able to keep their jobs, and aren't forced out once they get pregnant) plays a huge role in dissuading women from getting married and having kids, and Japanese and Korean women themselves are the first to say so. Idk how that could even be debated? There's a reason for that significant correlation in developed societies between women's participation in the workforce and the fertility rate of the country: the lower their participation in the workforce (which indicates a more patriarchal society that's less tolerant/flexible for working women/mothers), generally, the lower the birth rate.

Wow. Japanese moms go to great length to provide a healthy and filling meal for their children. I think the rest of the world can learn something from them ❤ ,
I like the music you used in the video. I couldn't understand Japanese, thanks to the comment below to let us know what sauce went in the pan :)
