Τον Ιούλιο του 1974, ο τουρκικός στρατός εισέβαλε στην Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία, εκτοπίζοντας χιλιάδες ελληνοκύπριους σε στρατόπεδα και προκαλώντας τον θάνατο άλλων χιλιάδων. Αφού άκουσε τις καταστροφικές αναφορές από την πατρίδα του, ο σκηνοθέτης Μιχαήλ Κακογιάννης έσπευσε από το Λονδίνο στην Κύπρο για να καταγράψει τα φρικτά γεγονότα στην ταινία. Υποστηριζόμενος μόνο από έναν καμεραμάν και έναν τεχνικό ήχου, ο Κακογιάννης ταξίδεψε στο πληγωμένο νησί, παίρνοντας συνέντευξη από πολιτικούς ηγέτες, καθώς και από αμέτρητους πρόσφυγες, θύματα της εισβολής.
Το αποτέλεσμα που προκύπτει παρέχει μια ειλικρινή, ματιά στις αδικίες που επιβάλλονταν στους αθώους ανθρώπους της Κύπρου, δίνοντας παράλληλα λεπτομερείς εξηγήσεις για τα γεγονότα που οδήγησαν προς αυτήν την πραγματική τραγωδία. Επικεντρώνεται στη συνωμοσία για την καταστροφή της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας και τις συνέπειες της εισβολής, της τραγωδίας των προσφύγων και των αγνοουμένων. Η ταινία είναι στα Αγγλικά και στα Ελληνικά, με ανάλογους υπότιτλους. Η λέξη Αττίλας, για όσους δεν το γνωρίζουν, ήταν το κωδικό όνομα (κατάλληλα) που δόθηκε στην επιχείρηση για εισβολή στην Κύπρο από τις τουρκικές ένοπλες δυνάμεις.
In July 1974, the Turkish Army invaded the Republic of Cyprus, forcing thousands of Greeks into displaced person camps and causing the deaths of thousands more. Upon hearing the devastating reports from his homeland, director Michael Cacoyannis rushed from London to Cyprus in order to document the horrific events on film. Supported only by a cameraman and a sound engineer, Cacoyannis traveled across the grief-stricken island interviewing political leaders as well as countless victims and refugees. The resulting film provides a candid, personal look at the injustices imposed on the innocent people of Cyprus while giving detailed accounts of the events leading up to and following this real-life tragedy. He concentrates on the conspiracy to destroy the Republic of Cyprus and the effects of the invasion, the tragedy of the refugees, and the missing persons. The film is in English and Greek, with subtitles as appropriate. Attila, for those who don't know, was the codename (appropriately) given to the operation to invade Cyprus by the Turkish armed forces.

Η Κύπρος πέρασε πολλούς κατακτητές, σχεδόν ολόκληρη την 2η χιλιετηρίδα μ.Χ. Αυτό δεν την κάνει αποικία κανενός. Η Κύπρος ήταν ελληνική, παρέμεινε υπό κατοχή ελληνική και θα παραμείνει ελληνική και χριστιανική, άσχετα με το πόσοι ακόμη θα την διεκδικήσουν...
