"O Cascadia!" - Cascadian Patriotic Song [+Lyrics]

"O Cascadia!" was originally written in 2010 by Lloyd Vivola, and arranged in the format of a traditional folk song. This version was arranged prior to the Cascadia Football Federation's debut in London at the 2018 CONIFA World Football Cup. The orchestral arrangement was made by Jordana LeSesne, with vocals by Leah Hart.
The Cascadian cultural region and independence movement is based in the Cascadia bioregion of western North America. Boundaries based on current political boundaries usually depict Cascadia as being the US states of Washington, Oregon and the Canadian province of British Columbia. The borders drawn along larger ecological and cultural lines stretch from coastal Alaska in the north into Northern California in the south.

@@thebluerebellion Fun fact: The geopolitic and natural boundaries of Cascadia are almost the exact same frontiers Nutka and Orejón used to have before Mexico, Great Britain and the USA split it up. Not only Cascadia makes sense and it would be rich as fuck, but also it has history and culture behind. If the USA were to collapse in a few years (as a global crisis aproaches for 2027 just like the USSR did in 1991), Cascadia's independence should not even be questioned (just like Vinland, the CSA, Tejas, La Florida, La Luisiana and Lakotah). Even Tejas and North California (nowadays California without its Cascadian lands, Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Nevada and Yuta) could reunify with Mexico. Btw, by Vinland I mean basically New England with DC, the Iroquois Confederacy and the Susquehanna River bank.

As a Washingtonian I support the union (heck we’ve got a surprising amount of military personnel and gun owners for a lapis-blue state, both of which are only on the rise, and we just got more power in the senate lol), but damn we should make our state flag the cascadia one (we seem to dig it far more than our green SOB one, wearing it on shirts and hats and putting it on our cars as bumper stickers) and our state anthem should be either this or “Roll on Columbia”, instead of the “Washington my home” junk we have (whose first line is “this is my COUNTRY”). @@JamesTDG Alright I'm going to go on a tagent not because I want to but because I will once and for all prove this anthem is garbage. 1 there is no melody and what little melody is there it sounds like a soundtrack for a michael bay film and the other version of cascadia sounds like some made up country song. 2. The other version a guitar can NOT I repeat CANNOT stand alone for an anthem even quebec knows this gen du pays is usually accomponied by piano or flute or sometimes both. The lyrics are so bland and generic they sound like a song from 1984. Cascadia has an extensive history that is often overlooked. Instead of praising a leader which isn't what most anthems are we could praise our history, for example, the La Marseillaise is about a people standing against tyranny and banding together for their homeland. We could have something that looks into our history that goes like "From the oregon country we were born and divided. Foriegn powers shall rule us no more and Cascadia can be free atlast". In general anthems are supposed to be very patriotic for a country like the usa "the flag was still there" we could have something like "our people still stand and will continue through generations of children" but O Cascadia has to have some bs about defending nature. like yes I love nature and want to protect it but that is not my identity. My identity is a Cascadian not a tree. Also if you ever listen to anthems where they praise a leader it's usually their founding figur. Greece's anthem is LITERALLY a POEM like we could use any poem and it would be a better anthem like edgar allen poe's the raven would be a better anthem than O Cascadia. Cascadia already has 2 state songs that could just change some lyrics and be great anthem like Oregon my Oregon which could stand by itself an anthem for Cascadia. 3. praising a leader or leaders in cascadia would be very cascadian we have some great Cascadian heros Lewis and Clark, thomas jefferson, john jacob astor, chief kamiakin, chief leeschi you could literally create an epic out of lewis and clark much like the epic of gilgamesh. It's called an epic for a reason because it's epic. so In conclusion O Cascadia is not better than a song praising a Leader if north korean know how to do anything right it's writing music. Honestly if you ever listen to it from a melodic and rythmic standpoint it could compare to motzart or beethoven.

I think the general consensus is that this song is hippie dogshit that doesn’t represent the old Oregon Country/Columbia Territory nor our current state. The lyrics make it sound like we have no culture and have to make up for it by talking only about diversity and nature and reason and other random things like that rather than the original Columbian dream, the poor and sober settlers, the land dispute, pig war, etc… It is the common liberalist activity: destroying the past and replacing it with something artificial, extant for the sake of existing.
