The author and Composer was King John IV of Portugal in 1645. This manuscript comes from the Royal Library of the Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa (Portugal). It was known in the english royal court at the time, as the "Portuguese Hymn".

I agree. If this had been your average church building I might understand them to be poor, or not very versed in dressing for church to worship our Lord. However, this is Westminster Abby so that presumption cannot be intelligently made. I would dress better even just for an organ concert. But, as you know, we cannot judge people’s hearts. But as a minister, I have noted over the past several years people have become exceedingly lax in what they offer to God worshiping him in public.
