Have one. Unrepairable pcb. Installed a Lionel RS-3 pcb in it. Runs great. That my last MTH engine purchase. They make beautiful engines, but the electronics are pricey to repair.

Thanks! These are one of my favorite locomotives. I highly recommend them. That place with a Z has a C&NW one right now that is a good deal.

Awesome review! You are absolutely right too! There are plenty of great deals on beautiful PS1 models in the $120 range! Most of my diesels are all in that range and for another $180(+shipping) for the upgrade kit, once installed you come away with a PS3 loco for around or under 350. That’s how I price all of my PS3 upgrade projects. If I can’t get the base model for around 120, then I pass, unless it’s something hard to find or really, really want. The PS1 QSI models have really great sound. I don’t run any conventional anymore, so I have to convert anything I get. 100% agree with you though, there are still plenty of great bargains out there!

Thanks! I've watched your series on upgrading that Western Pacific gp20 and it is tempting, however I'm all conventional at the moment. If I could find a DCS system with the remote for a decent price I would consider it. Hopefully when the WTIU comes out the prices might go down.

For sure…the prices of the existing TIUs is ridiculous!🤮. Would be nice if prices come down after the new WTIU is released! 😎. Thanks for checking out the upgrade vid! 😎

Beautiful engine! I also recently purchased a Weaver B&O SD-40 with QSI proto sounds at an online auction for under $100. It's built exactly like an MTH version, since they were built by Samhongsa and was likely a joint venture between Bob Weaver and Mike Wolf. It's a great runner. Anytime I buy anything QSI equipped, I always check the battery. I prefer to use the 8.4 volt Energizer rechargable batteries. They seem to work better than BCRs, but I have some with BCRs.

Even though Baldwin was a terrible diesel builder Nikolas. You know the Centipede they built them one at a time and not on an assembly line?
@UncleSalty-nz5uk29 күн бұрын
I agree that the SD40-2 is probably the same tooling. There is a slight difference on the running gear, but other than that, the same. The MTH (now atlas) E8s are the Weaver tooling as well, just more detail added.

Do an overview on the Weaver Sd40-2. I have 3, but are horn only.

@@UncleSalty-nz5uk sure. It'll be a while, but I'll gladly do some videos on my Weaver locos, as well as my Lionel TMCC Commodore Vanderbilt that originally belonged to Tom McComas. It's the same one used in I love Toy Trains 11 and many of his other productions.
